Leadership: You’ve Got 99 Problems but Lack of Ego Ain’t One

Pros

The people - hands down some of the best people I've ever worked with and a fun environment when people are actually in office (WFH 2+ days a week is standard). My manager and many of the middle managers - many of them truly care about your professional growth and do as much as humanly possibly to keep you happy and fulfilled. Dog friendly office - they really do bring a lot of joy to the office!

Cons

This company is going through a growth phase and that's tough on employees when it's not handled properly. There were many a high hopes with new leadership but sadly I think that what has been discussed and promised versus what has thus far been delivered, from both an employee satisfaction and vision standpoint, is greatly lacking. Leadership talks a big talk about how "change is coming" with no real concrete plans and timelines to actually move things forward - and the plans they have put in place have been an absolute disaster; people's teams and managers were shifted literally overnight with absolutely no input from employees or check-ins thereafter. And while the bottom line is always the true main driver to any business, I don't think they understand, or at least certainly have not shown, that they value employees enough to make the very high turnover the absolute focus, which would inherently improve client retention - along with the shifting of teams, employees are overworked, they're not compensated nearly as competitively as they should be by Bay Area standards, trying to get a well-deserved promotion/raise is like pulling teeth, and with the high turnover there's no contingency plan in place so when someone leaves you're expected to pick up the slack with no upside - and with four people leaving in the past 45 days or so alone, that's a HUGE ask. Let me tell you that there is an absolute air of apathy and management saying "We really do appreciate you, I promise! Here's a gift card to show it!" is a sad attempt at alleviating this issue and becoming a people-first organization. If you have a business that no one wants to work at, or at least not for long, then sadly you really have no sustainable business at all.

We are disappointed to read these comments, but thank you for recognizing the efforts put in place this year to provide career growth and upward mobility to all our employees. The team here at Mogo IS wonderful and talented, and we are so proud of each of them and the work that they do every day. It is true that our hiring has not been fast enough, and to say that we are dissatisfied about it would be an understatement. We are working hard to change that and to deliver on the promises we have made to our employees.

Unfortunate and Dysfunctional Workplace

Pros

Stepping stone. A place to learn that there is only one way to go; up. You'll never appreciate another place more than when you leave this one.

Cons

It's hard to put into words how toxic and dysfunctional the work environment and culture has become. It's beyond me why more people haven't shared their unfortunate situations as one by one people continue to jump ship on a deteriorating company. The vision is blurry and the execution is poor. Clients needs come first regardless if it is ethical or not. It's disappointing being a part of something you don't believe in and even more frustrating when no one wants to confront any of the issues everyone is facing. The amount of tension in office is unbearable and the offline conversations about wanting to leave the company is plentiful. If you have the opportunity to be a part of another company I encourage you to save your time and energy. Please put it towards a company that will appreciate you without depleting all of your greatness and hard work you bring to the table. You will leave this place feeling defeated and confused why a company would want to take advantage of such great workers without appreciation, compensation or direction to a fulfilling career. It's in your best interest to not buy into the lies that will be sold to you during the interview process, those promises will still be unfulfilled for months to come.

Pros

- On-hands experience with various digital channels and platforms like Facebook and doubleclick. - Relatively flexible work environment (flexible hours, opportunities to telecommute).

Cons

- Cheap, cheap, cheap, did I mention they're cheap? The entire place is run on a shoe-string budget which is apparent when you look at the employee workstations, the half-assed setup of offices, and below average salaries. - There is a serious underrepresentation of smart marketers, especially among those with management positions. - Not a lot of direction or vision coming from the executive office or than trying to sell the company. - The sales approach seems to be focused on fast and quick-sells that are light on any real strategy. - Tons of turnover, the place is like a revolving door. The best and the brightest seem to be gone within 12-18 months.

Hello Strategist, thanks for your feedback. Admittedly, a tough review to read, and I am very sorry to hear that your experience at Mogo at this point, is not meeting your expectations. We are a scrappy, entrepreneurial, privately held business which has grown organically, and without external capital investment, for over 16 years. Our main focus has been and continues to be our clients, the delivery of great service, and the development and retention of our employees. Not going to say it isn’t tough to balance it all. It’s tough! But we keep at it. We’ve just completed a huge transformation in the organization, with new professional opportunities for a large percentage of our team. We are proud of this accomplishment, as it was a response to the collective voices of the organization about what they needed in order to thrive and grow with us. We continue to solicit internal feedback about the transitions and hope you’ll take those opportunities to let us know how it is going for you. My greatest concern is that somehow we have not been available to you, to address your concerns and frustrations directly. My experience at Mogo, as the HR Leader for almost 3 years, is that we are extremely open and receptive to our team’s feedback, and exert a TON of effort to address challenges. That you are here with us, experiencing these deep rooted frustrations, is not how we want any of our employees to feel. Ever. Please consider coming directly to me, or to your manager, so that we may have the opportunity to connect with you about it.
