Pros

I used to love working here and now I don’t. As side from the benefits package, one of the only pros left is being able to work remotely when needed and I like my team members. All the fun perks are gone so I doubt MMP will maintain its “top workplace” award this year. It’s just not the same.

Cons

So much has changed since they laid of 35 people in January 2020 and have been firing people here and there ever since. Upper management doesn’t seem to realize that this place sucks now and has done a complete 180 in just a year. Everyone pretty much understands why there were crap raises and no bonuses this year but that doesn’t make anyone feel any better. We are doing more work for the same pay which equals out to less pay... some people were underpaid to begin with so I feel bad for them. A lot of us don’t feel appreciated and a lot of people are on their way out with the way the company is going. People have slowly started to leave the company and they will continue to leave. MMP used to be a fun place to work - the motto was work hard, play hard”. It has now turned into a “work hard, work harder” motto. All the fun stuff that everyone loved about MMP has been “taken away” because we aren’t making enough money to keep the company afloat and we had layoffs. No more happy hours, free swag, free lunches, orioles tickets, free snacks in the office, no more candy, and the 2019 holiday party was great but very underwhelming compared to previous years. Which we all now know was due to budget cuts and the impending layoffs. Depending on which team you’re on, determines how much you’ll like your job. The editorial side is constantly restructuring and no one seems to know what the heck they’re doing on a daily basis... it’s chaos. It’s very conflicting as you have no idea who you’re suppose to get answers from or who is doing what anymore. The marketing side is fine but the lack of communication makes it hard for anyone to do their job. Also, when they decided to lay people off- they should’ve did it by efficiency. They kept employees that don’t want to do their jobs but got rid of the employees that were amazing workers. They could’ve gotten rid of the people who didn’t do their jobs and shifted the people who were great workers into the jobs of those who they shouldn’t have kept. Keeping the employees that do crappy work, makes it much more harder on those who are still here and already have to suffer due to the heavier workload. It makes no sense... there is a lot of favoritism that goes on around here.

Pros

Fun environment to work in. Great parties. Most people that work there are fun and easy-going.

Cons

I'm taking the time to write this review because this company shouldn't have been name "one of the best to work for in the Baltimore area. Yes, there are cool parties and all, but managers see their employees as disposable. They don't help you succeed or get better at something you may be struggling with, they simply get rid of you if you're not cutting it- unless, of course, you suck up to the right people. There are many "cliques" in this company so if you belong to one of them you may be safe from getting laid off or fired. The turn over is absolutely absurd.

Naturally, we were disappointed to see a review like this. At least at first. The fact of the matter is that this reviewer experienced some of the hard truths about our business philosophies and culture. Let us explain... We have no qualms about letting people go quickly if we see that Money Map Press isn't the right place for them. When that happens, we're not going to hold them captive or prolong the inevitable. We believe it's better for all parties to move on. But how do we know who will sink and who will swim? Easy. People who raise their hand with hunger - not hesitation - will make it. People who ask smart questions and have something of their own to contribute will do more than just make it. Those who truly believe in our business and love to constantly innovate will have a job here for life. And yes, we love people who thrive on collaborating about ideas. We keep a very close-knit culture, which hasn't been easy to do given the growth we've experienced over the years. But we work really hard at it because we are stronger together.

Pros

There are great people who work here. Depending on your manager, there can be great work/ life balance.

Cons

If you read enough reviews, you'll see the same problems talked about over and over - bad culture, bad products, bad managers, etc. You'll also see the CEO keeps responding by pretending these aren't problems - that's basically the company in a nutshell. The problems never get fixed because leadership either doesn't care or isn't competent enough to fix them. The vast majority of employees think all the same things that the negative reviews say - morale is terrible, they've done nothing to fix it. The company exists to benefit the people at the top and whoever can get in their club. They were still rolling it in while laying people off left and right. Awful people/ bullies in positions of power. The products are bad. Lawsuits forced us to start being more honest, but the products can't stand on their own merits, so marketing is struggling. There's not really opportunity for growth for most people. They might give you title change, but don't expect a raise when the company is barely staying afloat. No inspiration from the top. The only thing the leaders get you excited about is changing jobs.

Our first commitment is always to our readers, offering them high-quality products and customer service that will help them live a more financially independent life. Reaching that objective requires constant adaptation in product development, marketing messaging, and company culture. We know we have work to do on all three fronts. Where we differ from this reviewer is that our outlook on that work is positive and eager. That includes open communication forums such as our "Ask Me Anything" sessions where any team member can pose a question to our Publisher. Plus we are working on additional learning and development opportunities to accelerate individual learning even as we are working remotely. Our leadership has every intention to continue to push the company forward into a stronger place and we know we can't do this without our people or loyal customers.
