Steer Clear of this Hot Mess

Pros

This company is a sinking ship.

Cons

The CEO is Elon Musk-Light... and that's not a good thing. If you're the flavor of the week, he might listen to your ideas. If you are too negative but have the willingness to look out for the company, not just the CEO's feelings and offer up valid constructive feedback about the way teams work, he will not listen to you despite wanting to be part of product management without any real connection to the work the teams are doing. The product team has no business being a team. They don't understand basic product management responsibilities, how to utilize the UX work, or how to work with the Engineering teams without throwing both under the bus when they don't know how to do their job. The UX team also doesn't understand basic UX principles. It's glorified graphic design with a splash of front end UI. UX Leadership does not champion for their employees, which is even worse. For a data-driven company, this team does zero research. Software managers and engineers are leaving at an alarming rate. People who haven't left yet are likely planning their exit strategy as I type this review. The company is very "light" aka there is no concern or care for making a diverse and inclusive work place. There is no culture, there isn't even HR to take any concerns or complaints to, though I imagine if there was, you'd probably just be fired for expressing those thoughts. Steer clear, especially if you're a woman.

Pros

-Good people across the company, although half have left or been fired and everyone else is halfway out the door. -Great PTO

Cons

-If you're looking for job security, steer clear. They will tell you your job is safe, it isn't. Performance and passion for your work mean nothing when leadership flounders at every turn. Someone is fired unexpectedly every couple of weeks out of the blue with no sound reasoning. There is no HR, no warning, and no class. -The company is doing poorly and making all the wrong moves to fix the situation. Blowing huge amounts of money on strategies that won't work instead of investing strategically and fixing blatant problems. -The good people who are left are all half-way out the door. Nearly everyone from every department is miserable and trying to leave. Shame to see everyone suffering when the culture used to be so great. -Leadership is frighteningly out of tough with their employees. Everyone has weird and uncomfortable experiences in 1-1 meetings. Very strange, borderline inappropriate behavior. -If you're a woman, be very careful. Leadership expects you to be soft and emotional. They will tell you they want you to be "open and transparent with what you are feeling." You'll keep your job if you keep your mouth shut, your head down, and do what you're told - whether it makes good business sense or not.

Great talent wasted due to poor management

Pros

Non-management people are kind and driven, and genuinely believe that they are making a difference. Schedules are flexible.

Cons

No member of management has any training in leadership, so it's constant course-correcting at the expense of the lower level employees. Most members of that team seem to be in a revolving door, so priorities are constantly changing and leave staff in a state of nonstop evolution. When growth isn't happening fast enough, it's blamed on the team faced with the tasks rather than the leaders that told them to prioritize something different two weeks ago. Downfalls, while transparent, are always presented by the owner with a rosy outlook, giving the rest of the organization false hope for a bright future when in reality leadership has no idea what they're doing as they're leading the entire company down a very dark path.
