Pros

Research salaries are fairly well paid and pay scale is transparent

Cons

When I moved to Moorfields I had heard bad things but thought I should not judge by other people's experiences and make my own mind up. However these negative reviews were true. Toxic work environment, clichey management, people talk behind each others back, they don't respect working hours, management have little oversight over what goes on day to day, no training when I first joined (make mistakes and learn as you go was the norm). If you bring ideas to the table they are not welcomed, a-lot of push back from management who are reluctant to change and waste time on irrelevant tasks rather than looking at how they can improve efficiency. Managers don't care about you and your development unless you are there friend. The annual PDR is pointless management do nothing to enhance your skills or take on training courses. Staff who have been there for years get away with doing nothing and there is no repercussions. Unfortunately the people who try to encourage change are pushed out by people's negative attitudes and lack of effort. If you want an environment where you can develop, meet genuine people and excel in your career then avoid Moorfields.

Pros

* Supportive HR Manager when advice needed on HR queries

Cons

There is most definitely a bullying culture within Moorfields - from lower banded roles all the way up to senior management. I was bullied by a senior manager who happened to be my line manager, resulting in a period of ill health - I did not feel that the trust offered adequate support for me to raise my concerns. I am of the opinion that senior members of staff across the trust [whether it be corporate or operational] are complicit in covering up bullying behaviour from their senior colleagues and not taking allegations seriously for fearing that it could rock the boat. When I felt I could finally speak up, I was offered mediation! Mediation to sit in a room with someone who had made me feel psychically unwell and put me in a period of bad health - I did not feel, and still do not feel, that my concerns have been taken seriously. Job roles are vacated by staff moving but are not open to applicants - staff are being moved into roles without interviewing. Services are sent out to private companies rather than retaining in house - medical records and catering for two examples. Medical records are now off site in the midlands and take 24 hours to access at the very minimum, rather than being on site and can be accessed in a number of minutes

Pros

Very little micro - managing going on

Cons

My manager constantly favourited our new employee who started in August 2019 over me constantly. Her tone of voice was different, she would listen more to her ideas and she would let her have constant sick days and would always take her side over mine when she was in the wrong. I would frequently think of them as witches. My manager would speak to me like I was a child and belittle me constantly. She swore at me a number of times and would frequently dismiss me with her hand gestures. She wouldn't let me join in with her conversations especially with this other girl and would tell me off for talking but yet she was always talking to this other girl about things that weren't related to work. It got to the point I couldn't stand coming to work and was very glad when we started working from home. She made it clear in her actions that she didn't trust me and would not let me implement new ideas. She was awkwardly quiet when it was just us which made it feel like she just didn't like me and didn't want to engage with me but when she spoke to the other girl she was all of a sudden in a better mood and wanted to speak to her. It wasn't always like this, for the first year I really enjoyed working here and felt like my manager was on my side. Although still sometimes I would feel she did not want to engage with me on a personal level but she was still professional. All this went out of the window when the new girl arrived and this is when her behaviour started
