Pros

Lots of talented employees in every department and on every level. Great health benefits, average PTO and average retirement matching. Paralegals and support staff are encouraged to be very involved in cases and provide input throughout all phases of cases. Offices and cubicles are nicely sized. The office itself is centrally located which makes for a decent commute. The view from the building is nice. The name/reputation of the firm looks great on a resume. End-of-year bonuses are equal to 1 or 2 weeks pay.

Cons

Delegation is a primary theme throughout the firm. From members to associates, to paralegals and support staff - everyone delegates work to someone else or to another department if at all possible. Compensation: Overtime is required. Base salaries are very low, are based on Charleston area salaries and not based on the demands of working at a high-profile firm, with long & intense workdays and on complex cases with graphic material. Bonuses for staff are not merit based whatsoever. Technology: From hardware to software, to the case management system to the phone system - it's all out-dated. This makes basic tasks very difficult and a lot of time is spent recreating the wheel. Morale: The work environment is negative and team leaders refuse to take basic steps to improve morale.

Great potential

Pros

Good work hours, decent pay, benefits. Nice people and some brilliant minds.

Cons

Cutbacks over the years mean you may be doing the work that used to belong to two employees. Management doesn't care about the professional growth of the employee and if they do, they don't know the first thing about following through. They send e-mails to the whole firm announcing big verdicts, implying that this will somehow trickle down and be a "good year" for all, only to disappoint everyone annually but the most senior partners. Good work is rewarded...with more work. No discernible leadership.
