Pros

- Most of the "patrons", both members and non-members, were incredibly friendly and made the center lively. - A variety of programs, events and classes fostered a positive environment. - A free membership is included for employees and a discount for family members. - My coworkers, fitness instructors, and my "boss", the assistant director, were incredible to work with. - I learned a lot about customer service and conflict resolution at this job.

Cons

- Poor pay (even internally— lifeguards began at facility supervisor's base pay when I worked there). Any "raises" are outpaced by an increasing city minimum wage. - Management, mostly from Parks and Rec, was emotionally and verbally abusive. Coworkers of mine were left crying from management's behavior. This fostered a culture of desk staff covering for and protecting one another from these people. Lots of internal conflict and power struggles! - Management hired people a few times despite other staff's suggestions. This led to safety concerns. Each time, they were let go a few months after for behavioral issues. - Looks meant everything to management. On a very slow day, expect to stare at the wall if they are is present. - The only "Break Room" is a mostly full storage closet with no windows. Lol. - Policies are old and ambiguous. Employees aren't ever trusted with "best judgement" in uncommon situations. - For a long time, the only option for conflict resolution was through law enforcement. No trespass policy. - Unrealistic expectations for desk staff and supervisors during events. - I left for my own emotional and mental well-being.
