If you must ... but don't stay long

Pros

NMWA often hires interns and those starting out in their career.

Cons

This museum's culture was toxic; most managers are ill suited to their positions and abuse their roles (save a few); favoritism, gossip and pettiness are rampant; and there is little diversity. Some departments are better than others about professional growth and training but overall there is a huge lack of career development. Salaries are poor and raises (if there is one that year) are meager. Little respect is given to work/life balance; be prepared to work well more than your share (overtime) and on projects that may not relate to your position without compensation. Departments are siloed and many times museum initiatives are not communicated, leaving staff in the dark.

Pros

Great mission and art exhibitions, great people.

Cons

Very gossipy and people talk behind your back without giving you open feedback. Departments are very siloed, you can dislike your job a lot more depending on which department you're in and who you're working for.
