Pros

*Some* upper management really care about making positive changes and innovating.

Cons

-Bad overall company culture and leadership. It's ran like a ma-n-pa shop while slowly turning into a legitimate big time company and it doesn't know how to properly handle that transition. -Old guard runs the show and has connections so deeply laid that they'll never be excommunicated. -A rampant "workplace first" mentality over "employee first". -They only love you if you sell your soul and work egregious hours, they expect insane hours from their salaried positions and constantly lose good employees because of it. - Treat the company as if its some magical place that you should be honored to work at, and shamed for standing up to their ridiculous practices. -The fact that its family owned is good and bad. There are employees who are only there because they have an "in" with the owner/owners family. If you have a wrong opinion, you will be an outcast or literally cast out. -Employee turnover is unlike anything you've ever seen. No one wants to stay once they get in. ----Insanely unprofessional environment once you see under the hood, and it won't take long. -The employees that HAVE stayed there long term are either (as stated above) so deeply entrenched in the culture they've become part of the problem...OR they are there because they have no other choice at that point in their career. -Upper management will freely discuss drama issues like it's a high school cafeteria. -Upper management openly discusses fired/moved on employees with disdain and disgust. -----Dont work here----

Pros

NPC used to be a favorable place to work. The organization did a realistic job of meeting its mission and as an employee, it felt like most, if not all of the leadership cared about its employees. It was a smaller company and the owner was actively engaged in the primary business. The owner was interested in long-term success and grew the business at a measured pace. The owner invested time in developing people to help them grow their careers within the organization.

Cons

Several factors changed how the organization has been managed and it has turned into a marginal employer. In recent years, the owner has taken a less active management role and has turned day-to-day leadership over to a few members of the executive team. These executives have done little to develop other leaders and do little project delegation that would promote individual career development. These managers have effectively created an environment that makes it appear they are irreplaceable. They have seemingly convinced ownership that only they can perform high-leverage activities. They have mastered the art of positioning themselves internally to gain favor. The organization talks tirelessly about “building relationships” and yet these leaders have only built relationships within the leadership structure. These “leaders” find it difficult to share credit for positive outcomes. The organization has kept the same leaders in place for years. NPC tends to move executives around in a constant state of realignment. Offices are moved constantly in a game of cubicle shuffle. Leadership holds a belief that an executive can perform any business role. However, the results of all strategic planning and realignments the last several years has yielded little organizational improvement. The company’s financial results remain at the mercy of cyclical government contracts. Strategically, the organization has tried to diversify itself so there is less exposure to the economics of the printing and mailing industry, but it has not been successful. Once ownership realizes that results are not improving, leadership roles are divided up differently. At some point, logic would lead someone to conclude that some of the executive team members should be accountable for the mediocrity. Some of the executives have done a good job blaming their mediocre results on others and never held to the same level of accountability as managers. As with most family-owned businesses, there is nepotism at NPC. It is a political environment and to be successful, you will need to identify the people with whom to align yourself. If you don’t, someone will be questioning the value you provide the organization behind your back. Also, the third generation of the ownership’s family has entered the business. They have been afforded quick promotions to leadership positions and the opportunity to work on higher-leverage projects. Other capable people are not given the same opportunities to succeed and grow.

We appreciate you taking the time to deliver your concerns. NPC takes pride in its flatter organizational structure and the many communication channels available to our employees. If you are a current employee, you are aware of the many forums we have for employees to present their concerns, and we encourage all of our employees to voice their concerns through one of those channels so that we may work collectively to better our working experience. NPC continuously strives to not only be the employer of choice, but to be the company of choice for all of its stakeholders. NPC continues to actively develop programs focused on employee engagement and development, which we believe will present everyone with the opportunity to reach their full potential and achieve collective long-term success. Again, thank you for taking the time to voice your concerns. If you would like to discuss this matter further, I invite you to please contact me directly. Thank you. Sincerely, Ryan McNeely
