Pros

Fascinating subject area Good work life balance Mission driven

Cons

Mass influx of hires (maybe 20% of corporate team) from CEOs previous company, which is from a completely different sector, is bad for culture, morale, and probably performance. Its hard for all climate and nature-tech companies at the moment. It felt particularly hard for NatureMetrics, who lack clear focus and direction. Major decisions are made in management siloes with insufficient influence from the wider team and, critically, insufficient market and customer insight.

Pros

There are some truly amazing and lovely people that work there. They have an expensive coffee machine.

Cons

Do you love not knowing whether you’ll still have a job at the end of the week, the thrill of working under poor management, or the exciting possibility of slowly sacrificing your health in the process? If not, then NatureMetrics probably isn’t the right fit for you… From the outside, NatureMetrics looks like the perfect place to work, the unicorn of creatures - saving the planet…hell yeah!!! Unfortunately, the reality feels more like discovering Father Christmas doesn’t exist. What once started as a dream with good intentions has now become a business-focused money-making (or not so money-making) group of high‑egoed individuals who seemed more focused on protecting their generous salaries than on supporting the talented staff beneath them. Not to mention, the commitment to environmental values is also…flexible, with the sustainability messaging occasionally undermined by unnecessary flights and a car park that suggests saving the planet works best in a 4x4. Let’s just hope the price of diesel holds out before senior staff expense their monthly commute to the office. For lab workers, it seemed RSIs were more common than the IT helpdesk getting back to you. And from my knowledge, raising concerns with senior management didn’t exactly provide reassurance — my job security felt wobblier than an agarose gel! If you want a place to develop, upskill, and have great mentorship, then look the other way. The staff turnover seemed higher than Dwayne Johnson’s daily caloric intake, but on the plus side your LinkedIn network will grow faster than the current price of oil.
