Pros

The pay is great. A certain amount of PTO is given at the beginning which is nice. Snow days, winter break vacation, holidays off.

Cons

Management, point, blank, period. If you have any concerns keep it to yourself and don't report anything. They will not stop at searching who reported a wrong doing and treat them badly for reporting. Not all but a few employees that are in a management position were not friendly or qualified for such a role. If someone felt you were advancing, the catty behavior was evident. EVERYTHING is kept hush, hush and NECC will do whatever they have to to save themselves and will find any loop hole so they continue to get grant funds.

We appreciate your comments about the GREAT PAY and generous Paid Time Off. At NECC, a lot of thought goes into developing benefit offerings that are provided for employees, so it is meaningful that you enjoyed those perks. It is always the goal of leadership to provide communication to teams at all levels of the organization. We know this is not always perfect, especially in a time when we are experiencing such rapid growth. Through growth comes development and we are committed to improvement as we expand to offer even more services to children and families in the community.

Pros

At first everyone was friendly and welcoming. They said we would help raise the quality of childcare of some struggling centers which I wanted to do. If the organization wasn’t so toxic the job would be meaningful. We traveled frequently to neat locations for conferences and training.

Cons

A lot of the staff spoke negatively about the centers we worked in and the employees of those centers. Some of the comments shocked me. The salary is based on performance, which you think would motivate you but then they publicly rank whose the best and the worst. And it’s based on supervisor opinion. No one actually cares about early childhood. They lie to the department of early head start. They receive a lot of money from donors but don’t really spend it on the families.

NECC is committed to a positive, high performance culture that supports our mission. I am disappointed to hear about your experience. I am also deeply troubled by your allegations. I am aware of no wrongdoing on the part of any of our team members. At NECC, we encourage employees to report any suspected wrongdoing, and no such reports were made. I would encourage you to reach out directly to me, if you’d like to share more information.

Pros

Benefits, PTO, Snow days off when OPS has snow days, work is meaningful

Cons

Leadership is HORRIBLE! Starting with the CEO! They do not know how to work with a diverse culture. I began so to notice that they tend to look down on minorities. They treat their employees like children and not adults. If management likes you, you are treated very well. If they do not, they will make it miserable working there. They are very controlling. You will get lashed at for giving constructive feedback. It’s a very toxic and stressful environment which causes the employee to feel afraid if he or she makes a mistake. I will say management will make you feel very welcome when you first start but very shortly afterwards, you will begin to feel unappreciated. It’s a very gossipy environment. So BEWARE!

While it does not sound like you were with NECC for very long, it saddens us to think that someone, no matter how short their employment, would feel that diversity and inclusion were not present. It would have been nice to have had the chance to discuss these feelings with you during your employment so that the specific details of your concern could have been identified and addressed appropriately. What you mentioned about our employees, that “they really love the work that they do” IS SO TRUE, and so very important. While this may be what attracts a lot of people to our organization, the reason why they stay is because they are proud to be a part of a great team that makes a difference for children and families.
