Pros

I previously worked with several startups in the Silicon Valley. After moving back to Toronto in 2017, I've been searching for local startup to contribute to. While I knew I was slightly overqualified for the role that I was in, I thoroughly enjoyed the time at Needls and learned a ton as well. Role definition - The job was well defined and rarely have I wondered if I was on the right track. The team is highly motivated to help our users, which really showed from our testimonials. The work environment is competitive (and I like it) and rewarding at the same time. I never stressed about work once I'm out of the office. Office culture - If you're looking for a fun, growth-focused, creative culture, this is it. Great team building activities, townhalls, game nights, taco lunches. The office is also dog friendly so it's a huge bonus for me. Growth - It's a very fast growing business and I can see them doing very well in the space. They do actively promote internally when the opportunity arises. However, it is a merit based environment so you have to be fully committed if you're looking to move up. I personally have a much faster growth expectation which is why I left, but for someone who's in the business for 1-3 years, this is a VERY good place to be. Management - Michael, Justin and Jeremy are fantastic managers, and great guys to hangout with. They're driven and are inspirational to the rest of the team. The team spirit is very positive on the User Success side, and we generally can pick out the negative Nancy fairly quickly. Needls is one of the best startups I've had the pleasure of working with. They're going through growing pains just like everyone else, but there are opportunities for the right individual.

Cons

Because they're growing so rapidly, a few things can certainly be improved upon. - Onboarding process for new hires can be better organized - More cross-department projects is appreciated - More organized, continuous learning projects

A lot of potential, but be cautious.

Pros

Extremely passionate group of people who all have unique knowledge bases, skills and the capacity to really help one another keep motivated for goal achievement. Communications, User Success and DevOps teams are really solid and collectively focused on success in their respective departments, for product, brand, and clients alike. Branding, Social, and Outbound product face and aesthetic are modern and on trend to other current successful tech start ups. Big up's to the Communications team. CTO and COO are generally open to one on one talks on the fly, or will make the time to connect as soon as they have a free moment. Cool Office location in the Junction. Snacks and Food readily available. Casual Dress Code and Liberal. Regular WFH and half days for personal leave if needed. Open office & chill office space.

Cons

Days can feel long at times, but expected with the workloads. Work and expectations from CEO can be a bit strenuous even unattainable at times with really aggressive deadlines/ goal achievement turn around times. High burn out / Employee turnover rate with few making past the 12 month mark. Platform can be a bit buggy, and policies around account creation, ad spend, pause/"sleep" and account cancellation modes can be a bit misleading, causing user frustration, negative reviews and account termination. Likely an implicit factor leading to relatively high user churn beyond avg user campaign cycle. Office goes through waves of extreme silence and then extreme points of loud on a regular can be hard to focus on tasks at hand sometimes, especially when on a client or vendor call. Suggestions and ideas for collective improvement are usually turned down or reframed for CEO's preferences (induced micro managing).
