Pros

The patient communities and colleagues are incredible. People work hard and care deeply.

Cons

The CEO that has been there for just over a year seems to be neither capable nor caring. The board has said it “isn’t their job” to address what sure seems to be a worsening financial mess and blocking of access to care. The Chief of HR and EDI was fired seemingly out of nowhere and the COO was demoted without communication. The CEO ‘appointed’ a new COO without ever having posted for the position—and hasn’t explained that choice except for emailing all of us a lot of words that mean nothing. These emails read like they’re written by a AI bot. No one is steering the ship. These are inexperienced leaders with no history of running an org this size who are letting their egos run the show. They aren’t from this area and word is getting out that the way they conduct themselves shows little to no respect for relationships to the greater community. What is happening is unethical and deeply concerning. Our interim Chief Medical Officer resigned—as did the CMO before him, the Chief Dentistry Officer, many of the dentists, maybe half of HR, many of our medical staff, so many admin managers and staff, and more. I’ve been here for years and years and while turnover happens, it has never been close to this bad. The union has challenged the CEO to explain his actions and leaders have written letters requesting action from the board and CEO. The board has opted to side with the CEO, even sending out an email to all staff claiming they’re only to act as directed by the CEO and won’t be meeting with other staff. Many of us didn’t even know what that was referring to when we got it—and it just seems to have lowered morale further. The only thing that makes sense is that we are being prepped for a merger or acquisition—or that’s what people are whispering now. Huge and costly mistakes are being made that result in patient harm that anyone who knows what they’re doing would have avoided—unless it’s intentional perhaps? Staff were fired and it seems likely that was due to budgeting ‘mistakes’ and whispers are starting about grants now being at risk. Partners are likely rightfully worried and everything is falling apart remarkably fast. The board should be held accountable, I think.

Pros

Reach a diverse community...the front-line people are caring not because they work there but because they bring those attributes with them.

Cons

Executive and management is not representative of the diverse communities they serve.

Pros

Relationship between physicians and advanced practice providers (PA-C or ARNP) is very collegial. Good supervision and friendly atmosphere to consult with other providers on cases. Management is overall good. Easy to communicate with. PTO amount is average at first, but quickly can increase with years of service. Decent CE policy. Flexible scheduling and FTE for providers. Health plan actually has a very reasonable deductible. FTCA liability coverage is basically an occurrence policy. Alleviates most concerns about tail coverage purchasing if you leave. Compensation is probably above average for community health.

Cons

Occasional frustration with equipment. Sometimes difficult patients. Frequent interpreted visits which adds to time constraints. High no-show rate. Schedule visits often replaced with walk-in with unpredictable complexity.
