Over the 2 years I worked there Neighborly completely devolved into the most toxic workplace I have ever set foot in. The majority of the challenges facing Neighborly stem from the CEO, Jase Wilson, a cruel, delusional, and completely insane person. The behavior displayed by this man at the helm of a multi-million dollar company is shocking - among the things I personally observed: - frequent temper tantrums/shouting matches/crying/meltdowns in the office, including yelling and demeaning employees - freely spending company money on lavish and questionable purchases for himself and upper management - oversaw almost 100% turnover of employees during a one year period. Ask about Neighborly's retention and turnover rates during your interview and watch them squirm - accused employees who have disagreed with him of being alcoholics. He has also threatened to "out" former employees as alcoholics if they reveal any of Jase's bad behavior. I knew all of the people this accusation has been leveled at and not only has it been untrue ion every occasion, it is a despicable thing to accuse someone of. - SPAMMING GLASSDOOR WITH HIS OWN REVIEWS! Pay attention to the cluster of extremely positive reviews around July 2018 - at one point it stated quite clearly that these were posted by the "CEO of Neighborly," but has since been edited to "Anonymous Employee". Even without the edit it's obviously Jase - the reviews are peppered with his favorite excuses and justifications as to why the company's outlook is so dismal ("big mission", "not a 9 to 5 job", "nobody said it would be easy") and the "cons" are laughably positive. The occasion that really made me reconsider my career there: - during a 2017 retreat the employees held a session on the company culture. Everyone wrote their honest opinions on a small piece of paper which were put into a hat, drawn, and read anonymously. The first few opinions all expressed displeasure that upper management had been spending outrageous sums on themselves while simultaneously clamping down on perks, raises, and compensation for the majority of the company. Upon hearing this, Jase began spamming notes into the hat with quotes such as "we are on a rocket ship", "we are going to change the world" until he was quietly stopped by the session's moderator. He then switched tactics and commandeered the session, blubbering, crying, and screaming, to rant about his deprived childhood and how that meant nobody should ever question his leadership. Within 6 months of that retreat about 50% of the company had quit. This is just the tip of the iceberg in regards to Jase's behavior. Working at Neighborly is an extremely stressful prospect that will take toll on your mental health with little reward. The grandiose mission statement which attracted me, any many other people, to the company is simply untrue - I view the company as a vehicle for Jase's ego and furthers his ability to demean the people working under him. I was prompted to finally write this review upon listening to The Dropout - the podcast about the downfall of Theranos. The parallels between Theranos/Neighborly and Jase/Elizabeth Holmes are staggering. I strongly recommend against working here unless there are significant changes to upper management and company culture. FULL DISCLOSURE: I quit of my own accord and on good terms.
