Pros

Good place to work if you're a mouth breathing moron but related to somebody who can make you a boss despite not having any qualifications whatsoever

Cons

Promotions are based solely on who you're related to, who you know, who you've slept with, or whose campaign you've contributed to. They give promotional tests when pressured but then instead of hiring off of them, they appoint people to positions above that title who've never held the subordinate title. (I dare you to name a law enforcement job where your 3 star chief was never a sergeant, lieutenant, captain, etc. Or, a chief that was never even an officer. Try finding a state where THE chief judge of the state had never even put on a robe before his childhood friend, (who's since been indicted) handed him the job he was completely unqualified for. Your boss will most likely have never done your job and will most definitely be incompetent at theirs. Horrible contracts are shoved down your throat because employees are divided among so many weak unions. Depending on the union, the bosses are coerced into taking the contracts because they are either on the take, bordering on indictments that magically go away, or as dirty as management and are selling you out for appointed jobs for their kids and friends. Don't like your union president? Too bad, he created the union and designed the bylaws so he's the president for life and can't be voted out. While corruption exists throughout civil service, this place is leaps and bounds ahead; the test taking, in the trenches civil servants are losing their houses while the fat cats are walking all over them.

Pros

The benefits are excellent. medical, dental, pension and tuition reimbursement. The work hours are the best. Weekends off and four weeks vacation to start.

Cons

If you are not friends with someone in a high position, you will never get a promotion. It all works on a buddy system. It's not what you know...its who you know.
