Pros

Nice location and some interesting projects.

Cons

Went downhill fast after sold to Tektronix. The company being in serious financial stress, it was a bad deal. Went to hell after Tektronix was sold to Netscout. Netscout management team does not know the limit of the tool but keeps writing blank checks to customers to get as many deals in as possible, no matter how unfeasible the requirements are. They kept asking employees to make empty promises to customers about features that engineering team will never be able to deliver. Field engineers are left to suffer from unable to deliver. Even worse, the pricing is getting ridiculously low by Netscout management team, as compared to the pricing the original Newfield management team would fight for. Why would the management team cuts throat if Netscout is already the biggest player in network measurement? This company is now driven more by sales and lies, not by technology or product. What is consistent throughout the different M&As is that the different management team always only look at the short term.

Pros

Promising product, and a pretty strong talent pool. Flexibility to work remotely. Market leader in this domain, and well established now.

Cons

Lot of politics. Not much growth. A sizable chunk of the development team is quite opinionated, though a few of that group have since left. There are still a few who would brand you as incompetent and you will get sidelined should you disagree with them. Look for one of the comments here ("lot of incompetent engineers") as an example. If you belong to the school of thought that people are talented in one way or the other and that you can disagree without branding others as incompetent ( or anything along those lines), this may not be the right place. Another huge con is that the technologies used are not cutting-edge. Also, the pay is well below market. If you are an experienced developer, there are tons of places in the Bay Area. Stay Away if you can.

Heading downhill fast since buyout

Pros

It's in a nice location, you get to work on interesting projects, and there are some really great people that work there.

Cons

The company was acquired a few months ago by a much larger company. Since the buyout, things there have started going downhill fast. They have started having standing (no chairs) two-hour-long all-hands meeting, the relaxed environment has started to change, and they have started having employees on a project that was failing behind give daily reports on why the project is falling behind.
