      Started great, but company has lost itself along the way

      Pros

      Originally: Great 401k, Annual Profit Sharing bonus, Annual review w/ pay increase, Paid certification exams (pass or fail).... Now: Great 401K (None of the remaining perks exist)

      Cons

      Lack of established culture in the company. A small company can only "find its legs" for so long. What started out as great engineering firm with tons of promise, turned into a place to work until something better came along. There is an atmosphere of secrecy and paranoia that exists in this company, that is evident by the non-compete agreements and training reimbursement policies that are in effect. A few examples: Exam certifications are expected as part of your job, however PTO must be taken for the hours missed while taking the exam. Work extra hours on Monday, but PTO is required if you need to leave early on Tuesday, etc.. Again...what started out with alot of promise, end up with alot of disappointment

      Pros

      Collaborative technical team, remote options, good 401(K) match. No micro management, relaxed atmosphere and great learning environment.

      Cons

      Lack of leadership at the contractor and government level. Shady hiring and firing practices, program manager tries to run the show without input from team or government customer. Company is complacent after having the contract for so long, morale is low and teams are short staffed and over worked. On-call rotation with no standard of what constitutes an after hours call.

      Great learning experience

      Pros

      401K match is amazing. Pay was competitive. I had no prior data center experience so I was able to teach myself by working on this network. I had one paid training class in the 3 years of employment. No real support and almost no communication from government or company "management". This is a good 3 year learning experience, then start looking and move on. A very well established "clic".

      Cons

      My company tech lead was disgruntled so he took it out on those he had to work with. My FM was his bud, so that worked well. Watch out for the government employees. As a contractor you will make more money than they do and they will let you know how they do not like this fact. They cannot be fired, so there is some real dead weight. Just navigate it as best you can. Never saw an email from the CEO, so I am not sure how he can be rated so highly. A very well established "clic" environment.
