Pros

I can’t think of any

Cons

I thought this was a great opportunity for me as I was told in my interview that there were two accountants on the team that were looking to go part time, and a person in HR who helps with accounting. On day one I am greeted by an accounting team with 5 senior accountants, a controller, and 2 assistant controllers. I wish I knew that beforehand cause I never would taken the job, as it is a huge red flag to have that many accountants for such a small company. After a couple of weeks I started to notice that they were not following GAAP (many accruals, asc 842, ect). I started to ask questions of why they do things a certain way that is not standard GAAP and the only answer I would get by the team is: “we do things differently here”. It was very clear that management did not have a strong understand of accounting and focused on the only thing they have a strong understanding in which is bookkeeping. Once I started asking questions and try to focus on the higher level accounting concepts, they started to act more unprofessional. I was getting blamed for not doing my work for items that was not even assigned to me. I would send them emails as proof that those assignments they blamed me for not doing was not my responsibility, and they would never respond back. One time when that happened I ended up doing someone’s work that was not assigned to me, as it had to get done, and spent the entire 4th of July and weekend doing the work that the other coworkers did not do. That Monday I got called into a meeting the the CFO, CEO and controller, where they roasted me, and said they were really disappointed in my work, because I had to focus on that one project that other teammates did not do, and ignored the fact that it was never assigned to me. And they never gave me a proper chance to respond! They do not give out deadlines or give a task sheet making it very confusing who is doing what and when things are do. This created a lot of the chaos, and gave the managers a lot of leverage to blame people for being late on work or staying they did not complete it. I highly recommend not working at NLBs accounting team, as the management team is a mess, super unprofessional, and there is no effort to have their books follow GAAP.

Pros

Plant based. Good food. Employee meal IF you work 6+ hours.

Cons

Hours continue to be cut weekly while work load continues to be the same or increase. While there is a high turn over rate; more people are leaving then being hired. This leaves more work and tasks to the other employees. Several employees are then expected to take on tasks beyond their job description with no additional compensation. Employees have been encouraged to cross train and receive a raise for this, none have gotten a pay increase to my knowledge. There are clear favorites among the managers, some employees receive special scheduling and time off, some are excuses of their inappropriate behavior(including illegal activity) and not have any repercussions. The leadership team has inconsistent and incomplete training, both in how to be a leader as well as being an employee who’s knowledgeable in all aspects of the store; all areas, recipes and procedures. This leaves employees to make up, guess or do work incorrectly. The procedures seem to vary from store to store, furthering the confusion. Breaks are not scheduled and not reinforced. (Read: breaking labor laws) There are many rules and “high standards” for cleaniness, however, soap for doing dishes is not one of them. You are given one work shirt and can earn a second upon completing a menu test. All others must be purchased at the employees expense. The recipes are poorly written and inconsistent measurements are used. The recipes for CA are not designed for their volume, which often leaves the employees to do the math on their own. Multiple coatly mistakes have been caused by the the way they are written and manilupated.
