Pros

Over my tenure, I’ve been blessed to work with some of the most brilliant and exceptionally hard-working engineers, with a passion to do things right. Some great lower/mid management with great understanding and dedication to help their staff, which always helps. Historically some good upper management, but that is all but gone now. Challenging environment, always something to do, makes each day feel like progress.

Cons

The board: Their “one day a week” mandatory in the office policy is an own goal, less said about the way it was delivered … appalling. Upset a lot of loyal, hard-working staff, and given managers a headache to deal with that. No where near dynamic enough, some tech is best part of 10 years too old, and is too slow to change, and now starting to haemorrhage staff because of this, and poor decisions on 20%/one day a week policy. Resting on one’s laurels for too long, has caused stagnation. Utterly depressing, that something with so much promise, now has none. Glassdoor ratings tanking, for a reason.

Pros

Good people and friendly culture, good work life balance, fair salary. Lots to like and only hope it stays that way!

Cons

New leadership seems to be more erratic with Ill considered company wide mandates suddenly forced on staff with no warning or consultation. Recently enforced rule to be present in the office 20% of the month/ 1 day a week has suddenly been sprung on the workforce after 2+ years of flexible office time. No other reason has been given apart from ‘culture’. No consideration for personal circumstances. Colleagues that live far away and that should by all rights be considered remote workers (in some cases 500+ miles) are also expected to follow this rule! This has caused stress and upheaval to good workers and colleagues( some of which are now looking at their future at Nominet) for no plausible reason. Since we were told this new rule in a company wide video call it has in fact reduced culture and morale when speaking with people who are questioning the way it was delivered and also adopting a ‘what’s next?!?’ mentality. Already high staff turnover in some areas and teams are understaffed which is possibly only going to get worse due to this new rule. Senior management (in some individual cases) ignore day to day goings on and are extremely hard to get hold of to progress work. This has happened for years and nothing has ever been done about it.

Pros

The work is interesting Some nice people Macs

Cons

The company will renege on promises made during the hiring process and will gaslight you to try and make your think it is your fault HR is combative You will be told you are a being unreasonable when questioning changed The company lacks any sort of direction, expect to change priority weekly Your work can be blocked for weeks at a time because teams will not communicate They're are 4 different conferencing tools being used. Best company rating is part of your bonus. So if the company doesn't become a better place to work you lose out on bonus money.
