Unless Desperate Don’t

Pros

Hours are good. Regular 9 to 5. If you go early you get to leave early.

Cons

I count my blessings everyday that I was able to leave Norchem for an amazing job. It was the worst job I’ve had and mostly due to the company culture and treatment of employees. The large core of the company is family and trust me it’s no ideal situation for anyone who’s not family. All the reviews say you must want to work hard or else it is not the place for you. It’s true, but who would want to work hard and be dedicated in a company where they don’t feel appreciated. The building is very old, very dusty, broken AC...No company perks at all and benefits are almost non existent. There are so many great companies out there that treat you well and give you perks. Unfortunately Norchem is a micro managing environment and penny pinching. Keep looking!!

Micromanaging culture company

Pros

Small company where you can get to know the people and get to play several roles if needed.

Cons

There is a lot of work and a lot of blaming. If you want to do more work there is absolutely no recognition and little by little they will start to give you more and more work until failure. There is very little respect to employees who are outside the circles of management family. Management is very micro managing and makes procedures take forever. There is no room for growth and they have very high rotation of employees due to a faulty direction. Close to DTLA but with very old offices.

Struggling company with toxic culture

Pros

Small company so it's easy to know all employees, closer access to management, located near DTLA, easy to own a project and take lead because there's so much work that needs to be done

Cons

Management is constantly changing procedures and strategy without notifying employees. This causes ongoing confusion and missing deadlines and wasting money. Lots of unprofessionalism from management, will yell at and discipline employees in front of other employees. There is little concern for employees work experience or comfort: AC breaks down in summer, heater breaks in winter, and they take forever to fix it causing for an uncomfortable and unbearable work environment. Office environment and furniture is outdated and in disarray. An increasing number of employees hired at this company are relatives of the management, so as an employee you will always be outnumbered as they take each others side (this is also how they're able to give themselves 5 stars on Glassdoor.) This also leaves little to no room for career advancement within the company. Terrible vacation policy of only one week which doesn't even begin accruing until AFTER you have completed one entire year of work without any vacation days (industry standard's bare minimum is 2 weeks after 3-month probation.)
