Pros

The only positive part of working for Northstar were the benefits, the company parties, and the fact that I got an "in" with the client, which I now work for directly.

Cons

The CEO is by far the worst person I've ever had the displeasure of meeting and working for. I echo the sentiments of the other reviewers of Northstar on this site when I say that his general disposition of an arrogant and self-serving jerk stand out among other generally unpleasant qualities. The company deeply lacks in moral value, loyalty, commitment to employee growth, or providing opportunities that are almost always promised at the time of hire. The pay scale is significantly lower than competitors. They fire longtime dedicated employees without hesitation or reason. They are all unprofessional and extremely inconsistent in their dealings with each employee in all departments. They strongly buy into brown-nosing, and in no way show appreciation for initiative, work well done, or above and beyond efforts to make a positive impact on Northstar and its' reputation. They pass judgments and gossip like high schoolers. It was a disappointment to work for them, and I would not recommend this company to anyone.

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. I’m sorry to hear your experience at NorthStar was negative. We are committed to creating a professional and collaborative environment for all of our employees and your feedback helps to make NorthStar a better place. However, I do want to address some of your individual concerns here: First, we make it a high priority to research and stay up to par on our pay scale when it comes to employee compensation. We also cover employee benefits 100% which adds to total compensation as well as numerous other benefits. Second, when we hire at NorthStar, we are hiring for employees to be members of the NorthStar team, not simply a consultant at one of our clients. We agree that employees should be focused mainly on their client facing work and do encourage our employees to do just that. However, we recognize our employees are our greatest asset. Accordingly, NorthStar invests heavily in its benefits, incentive and support programs in order to attract, nurture and retain the top talent so we do encourage employee engagement within NorthStar as well. Thank you for your contribution and we wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.

Terrible company run by a terrible person

Pros

If you are a contractor working onsite at one of their clients then this isn't a bad job. If they are looking to hire you internally where you have any interaction whatsoever with the CEO than this is not the place for anyone.

Cons

The CEO acts like a child, he is truly a human piece of garbage. He verbally barrages people on conference calls, the only good ideas are his and they are all terrible. If he isn't insulting people on conference calls he rambles on for 90+ minutes like a crazy person would and you have to listen to it. The only reason he owns his own company is because he would never last a day in a real job without being fired.

Not worth the headache

Pros

Making connections with clients and onsite coworkers.

Cons

No leadership whatsoever. The CEO is one of the worst business owners ever encountered. He blames every team member for his lack of management skills and is completely disrespectful to employees. Truly believes himself to the best of the best, yet cannot execute on any plans or even set goals for his own company. No logical rationale for any decision-making and changes his mind on every plan made. The company is failing fast because of the colossal waste of money spent on software programs that never get used, under-utilizing premium talent, and the blindness to the fact that clients and employees are sick of the CEO's horrible attitude. No clear communication to staff about what is going on or any of the organizational changes that occur every few months. Once hired, you are in the dark. False promises. No bonuses. Once your client's project ends, you are let go effective immediately. Saw this happen to multiple people with no warning. Benefits are constantly changing. Expect to pay a lot out of pocket. Just about all staff move to FT with the client to get away from this company.
