Toxic Corporate Environment

Pros

Compensation and benefits are competitive with other companies. Work-life balance is good, depending on who your manager is. There are many hard-working and dependable employees that care about the company.

Cons

Upper level management has poor downward communication. Favoritism and bullying are commonplace at the corporate office. There has been a significant amount of turnover, leading to a distrust of management and a toxic cultural work environment.

Pros

Decent money, some good people working there who are underutilized. There is a section below for work/life balance and I can't say working there was bad in that respect.

Cons

Management decisions are terrible and made in a very callous way that is completely disinterested in the employees. They just sold a business unit that the management ran into the ground through poor planning and execution and through legal loopholes they were able to give a severance of only 4-8 weeks to employees who had been with the company for many years, in one case over 20. No training to speak of at Northwest. It's wasn't Hell on Earth and I'm not bitter. Everything has worked out for me since Northwest so the purpose of this post is so that you know what you're getting into and the limitations on what you should expect. There are just so many better places to offer your skills where you could be valued.

Pros

Fantastic plant manager and employees at the local level, salaried position.

Cons

Lack of communication coming from corporate level down to plant level, disorganization at the corporate level. A major divide between corporate in WA and the plant level. "Us" and "Them" mentality.

Thank you for writing a review and sharing your experience working with a fantastic plant manager and team members— that's encouraging feedback and shows how your local facility truly embodied the Northwest Pipe value of Teamwork. Communication is an area where, admittedly, we have some room for improvement. We're actively implementing company-wide initiatives to ensure better and more open communications amongst corporate and local facilities. As we grow, we're continually working to cultivate a more unified and inclusive culture across the Company.
