Pros

- People I worked with were friendly, helpful, and technically competent - Fast moving, not a ton of process or bureaucracy to get in the way - Modern tech stack hosted in GCP - Tasty lunch and snacks in the MTV office - Better working environment, people, and technology than several other companies in the AV space (from what I've heard)

Cons

- Autonomous driving is a really hard technical problem, one that even large companies like Google haven't figured out. On top of this and unlike most of the other companies in this space, Nuro is designing and manufacturing its own custom vehicles from scratch, which is incredibly expensive, risky, and time consuming. It all could all come out great in the end, but it will take a long time to find out. - Company is very secretive about key business metrics and timelines when talking to potential employees. This makes it hard to understand the risk/reward tradeoffs before signing. - Company has a high valuation due to a large Softbank investment. As a result, exercising stock options is expensive and carries a lot of downside risk. - Workspace in MTV has some issues- software engineers still don't have standing desks, parts of the office are consistently dirty or smelly, snacks are inconsistently stocked, etc. - SF office is small and doesn't have lunch. It's more of a once-or-twice of week stopover than a real office, and you'll still have to go down to MTV most days to get your work done.

Pros

There are no pros. There were when it started, but now it's garbage.

Cons

The management team is nothing more than a clique of friends who weed out the employees they don't want to hang out with. The idea of contract employees may seem great, but when there is an issue no one cares because it's the contract companies problem, who is worthless at resolving anything.

Pros

Some of the teams have good people

Cons

The functional leads are by far some of the most out of touch people in every way imaginable. Aside from political prowess there is no other reason some of them are in the position they are in. When the leads aren't micromanaging topics they are obviously inept at or listening to the program managers that are also unversed in the topics, they are accepting credit for work that is not theirs and finding petty disputes to complain very loudly about co-workers at their open floor-plan desk. Many decisions are made in bubbles and not communicated to the stake-holders till it's too late. This is a toxic workplace unless you are in the "buddy-cliqué" and many employees recognize this fact stating they are afraid to disagree or raise concerns.
