Pros

-Lots of resources to help with your job -Sometimes they feed you breakfast at meetings -You have access to upper staff -There's enormous flexibility to come and go when you need or take an extended lunch sometimes

Cons

-Commission is based on goals which are nearly impossible to meet (they raise them 20-30% every year each month) -They continue to switch around the same managers they've had for years so there is never any new direction or ideas -They force you to pay for the paper in order to park, and you have to pay outrageous amounts for parking as well (between $65-$110) -Most of your technology is way outdated and your "new" technology has very limited access. (For example they purchased a couple ipads to use when checked out, but they won't let you download any apps on them in order to use apps such as Google Docs or Dropbox) -You can't get a decent ad created for your customers, which is not the artists fault as they're paid half of what we are and time and decent work is hard to come by when your understaffed and underpaid. -Turnover is insane which makes it very complicated to work a stable job. When managers leave it makes it difficult to keep track of what's going on, and when artists or assistants leave your left doing their work yourself or spending double the time in order to find someone who can do it.

Pros

It was once a great and proud profession, so your older relatives will be impressed that you work for a newspaper. There are a few good days where quality journalism rises above the shallow muck that fills the website, but those days are growing fewer and farther between.

Cons

Good 'ol boy club style of management where problem managers are promoted up an out of the way. A steady rise in the do more with less mindset. Lack of raises, bonuses or even praise for working long hours under difficult conditions. The future is bleak. The general public and advertisers are not willing to pay for what they currently produce.

Pros

Was once a great company to work for and a great industry.

Cons

The company changed ownership and the new ownership was continually reducing jobs and disregarded experience among senior employees.
