Great in concept, not so great in reality.

Pros

- Cool product and mission - Great lower management teammates - Office is designed nicely and has a lot of Asian snacks - Frequent company outings and bonding events - Unlimited PTO

Cons

- The "wokeness" of the product and mission is not reflected internally, employees are paid extremely low wages compared to market standards and many of the employees are Asians that were happy to find a company that should've treated them right only to be exploited. - Upper management is passive-aggressive and selfish. They will also take credit for your work publicly while thanking you in Slack. - Office is in Brooklyn and you are required to come in a few days a week. - Company outings and bonding events are used to mask the fact that they are taking advantage of you. - Your role will encapsulate much more than what the job descriptions say, which is pretty common in startup culture however your responsibilities may even go beyond your DEPARTMENT. They will not provide raises or promotions despite this. - Unlimited PTO = you will have to work during your vacation

Thank you for your candid feedback. I know it takes time and energy to share these thoughts, and we appreciate you doing so. I care deeply about your experience, and that of every person who trusts Omsom with their time, talents and energy – so I am disappointed (in us) as I read your feedback. I’m very sorry that this was your experience working with us. On all fronts – from compensation to role clarity to company culture – you’ve outlined a number of areas where we could have done better. We’re learning how to become leaders alongside running the business, so I hear you and take this feedback very seriously. As first-time founders, we have been on a real learning journey and we have, without a doubt, made many mistakes and fallen short. On a more candid note, navigating the founder journey has forced us to grapple with our own fears, inadequacies, and scarcity mindsets as the daughters of refugees – and these areas for improvement are ones that Kim and I have discussed at length, take ownership of, and have since made great efforts to grow and do better on. I am proud to say that today, I do feel we’ve made leaps and bounds in the past 12-18 months. Some examples: as the company’s grown, we’ve been able to offer more competitive compensation packages and give promotions; we’ve brought on more experienced leadership help on the team; and last but not least, Kim and I have done a lot of work, with the help of advisors and coaches, to improve management styles, communication and culture. Looking ahead, we are committed to continuing to push to be + do better as founders and as a company. At the end of day, Omsom is a deeply values and mission-driven company and we are committed to living that as best we can, inside and out. We have not always been successful at that, but we have certainly increasingly made it a priority – and I am proud of how far we’ve come, even in the past year. I take ownership of and apologize for your experience, and I am committed to doing better. Thank you again for the gift of feedback and please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly if you’re open to discussing further. With humility, Vanessa, CEO & Co-founder
