Pros

The scholars are inspiring; Learn a variety of skills (event planning, student development, partnership management, supervising); Consistently felt valued by students

Cons

Leadership is culturally incompetent and perpetuate microagressions towards their staff of color; huge pay gaps between leadership and student-facing staff; inflated statistics in annual report and marketing; no recognition for the creative, physical, and emotional demands placed on staff; focused on growth, national recognition, Chicago politics, and donors instead of students; parade students for money; success in organization has little to do with quality of work and more to do with getting friendly with leadership and agreeing to policies that enforce respectability politics vs. student needs; Large caseloads that make quality student work difficult

Pros

Working with community college students is the biggest pro of working at OMD. Being able to make a positive impact in their lives is fulfilling.

Cons

The organization is focused on growth and pleasing their donors more then focusing on the impact on their scholars. The leadership of the organization also has no clear direction of the growth and does not know how to properly manage their growth targets. The leadership of he organization manipulates and exploits staff for their own personal gains. No transparency within the organization. Poor benefits as a staff member. No support for professional development. No role definitions and opportunity for growth within the organization
