Pros

Fellow co-workers are phenomenal, met some amazing people who care about the vision and mission. There is flexibility and the benefits are good.

Cons

1. Leadership is terrible and unprepared. The organization plays favorites and says it is about the mission and core values — only in theory 2. Will work you to the point of exhaustion mentally, physically, and emotionally. 3. Ambitious goals on expansion and quantity over actual quality 4. They do not value POC except as mouth pieces and to flaunt in front of their white donors — this extends to the Fellows 5. HA is worthless!!! So many people have left (mostly POC who have moved on to better positions with better pay). Complaints are made and serious issues of harrasment by managers are never addressed. 6. Donors matter, students don’t ...very look at me and the good things I’m doing for these children of color. Many people come to this organization because they believe in the mission and want to do the real work. Once reality sets in often amazing people will leave quickly (within 1-3 period) because they don’t agree, push for change, or ask too many questions. If you value your emotional, mental, and physical health — do NOT work here. Save yourself

Don’t believe the hype

Pros

The majority of non-leadership staff are passionate, intelligent, fun, and open to learning new things. Also, the actual work is engaging, but most of your time will be spent elsewhere

Cons

I don’t even know where to begin, I will keep it simple. 1. Leadership does not know what they are doing, but instead of being transparent, they spin narratives and become defensive. Lack of reflection and taking ownership. 2. Rhetoric does not match actions. OneGoal uses terms and concepts that sound good, but practices are on the opposite end of the spectrum 3. Bad managers/leaders are not held accountable. It creates a toxic, chaotic environment 4. Lack of clarity, lack of strategic planning, lack of foresight and forethought, lack of checks and balances (<- anyone can get an executive level position if you kiss up to the right people. Skills and integrity are not necessary) 5. People who actually practice what OneGoal claims to value are seen as a problem.

Pros

1. A pro of OneGoal is their “focus” on Diversity Equity and Inclusion. While the organizations efforts are unauthentic, they do provide funds for employees to do the work on their own. 2. Another pro is that you’re given the flexibility to work remote (dependent on manager). A lot of organizations are allowing employees to work remote more often, but it is worth calling out that OneGoal has roles that are 100% remote — which is good if that’s something that you’re looking for.

Cons

There are too many to list. But, I will do my best to list them here. 1. The lack of transparency. 2. The lack of training for new, and poorly performing managers. 3. The lack of support for employees. 4. Toxic Culture. I’ve never seen people be so fake happy in my life. No one ever truly speaks their mind. If you do, you will likely be reprimanded. I guess that’s why when people have critical feedback to share they always start it with, ‘you know I love OneGoal but’. 5. OneGoal’s DEI efforts are not real. In fact, they are very unauthentic. At OneGoal you will have great conversations surrounding DEI, but those conversations will go no where. Caring about DEI, without fully embracing it is really just another way to uphold white dominate culture. 6. Ageism + Constant reinforcement of hierarchal norms.
