Pros

+ Great benefits. + Top of market compensation. + Intelligent, passionate, mostly friendly. + Great food options.

Cons

- Work/Life balance is non-existent - Pressure to interview making it impossible to focus on your day to day - We are now a product company so intense pressure to ship consumer facing products instead of focusing on research - Constant feeling of being understaffed, performance review isn't very elaborate - Leadership is too inexperienced and doesn't seem up to the task to address growing pains in the ways more experienced leaders would. - We seem to be straying away from our mission in order to drive revenue. - Confusing equity options. - Lack of accountability from the top down. - Lack of diversity, not just race but education and background and it feels like most of the recent hires come from Stripe, Meta, or Google.

Pros

lots of interesting work, especially doing things that no one else is currently doing

Cons

First it was open source. Hence, the name, now bought by microsoft. The company is all about profits. They talk about trust, ethics, safety, and risks. But, are hypocritical about everything. The company cares little about data privacy. Most of the data that users share is used to train models. Current efforts to regulate are merely to benefit the company. The company ignores any bug fixes regarding privacy and data protection. The company has a very unethical trajectory. As a research scientist you will constantly be challenged with questioning your own ethics working at such an organization.
