Toxic work environment

Pros

Loved the creative work I was able to do Some coworkers were delightful

Cons

Overworked and underpaid Not sure women and men in same role were paid equally Breaks were frowned upon Work/life balance was awful Very weird rules that were inappropriate for a professional environment (one example: you had to go #2 in a specific bathroom in an unfinished basement that didn't always have a working door) No HR department (literally was the owner's mom) Personal boundaries were hard to keep (invasive questions about personal life were constant) When I tried proactively bringing up issues of being overworked and not going to meet deadlines and wanting to brainstorm solutions I was berated, yelled at and blamed. I was told that a 40 hour work week is an artificial construct and I was supposed to work as long as it took to get the work done on time. "non mandatory" prayer meeting every morning No training or help for technical questions I didn't know the answer to or understand. "you have to figure it out" was the mentality Inappropriate comments were made about my physical appearance Working from home was almost never allowed - even when we had 2 feet of snow (this was pre-COVID) Increasingly pigeon holed into a role that wasn't the right fit for me No 401K plan
