Cons
Where to start? Orvis will have you believing they are a company interested in employee growth and development, and this is absolutely true, as long as you fall into the right crowd and considered "one of them". Leave your own opinions at the door, because if your POV is anything other than a resounding agreement with what someone else just said, you'll be stuck right where you started for your entire career. You will be absolutely blackballed from advancement or even career shifts. Middle management has run amok on this company. For small teams of 3-5 people, you will have no less than 3-5 IMMEDIATE bosses micromanaging your efforts on a daily basis. Business partners from other departments (READ THAT AS PEERS, NOT MANAGEMENT) will get away with treating you as a subordinate, despite established hierarchy. Both your supervisor and HR will do absolutely nothing to stop it. Orvis is more interested in keep the ship afloat, than rocking it and making some waves in the industry. Despite what anyone will have you believe, they suffer financial losses year over year through poor investment planning and you will only ever hear excuses and smokescreen from those responsible during their so-called "Transparent Company Update" meetings. Holiday bonuses are a myth and haven't been awarded more than twice in the last decade. Performance raises max out at 2.5% and only if you are a stellar employee, which is an evaluation will you most likely always fail. One's yearly review will inevitably contain so-called "issues" with your performance, but offer little in the way of resolving it; Yet another smokescreen. Believe the other reviews when they state that Orvis is stuck in the age of the catalog. The catalog department is well over twice the size of Digital, while the volume of work in Digital is equal. Whatever your role, you will be absolutely buried with work with less than zero support from your supervisor. It will ALWAYS be your fault, no matter the case. Arguing a case for yourself in any capacity will only get you internally exiled from advancement. There is a reason that you can always find several high-ranking jobs available at Orvis - even the well-paid have no interest in staying.
