* When you are on holidays you only get your base pay as you're not working hence not making any service charge for the company so you don't "deserve" to be fully paid.
* No sick pay even if it's work related injury. They may offer sick pay at their own discretion but good luck getting that if you're not the manager's favourite.
* Speaking of accidents at work, injuries or even being sick - good luck with staying in bed in peace. When you call in sick they will persuade you to come in, especially if it's a shift with low staff coverage. I've seen staff come in with fever because Shift Managers pushed for it and staff felt in no position to refuse.
* Toxic work culture and some of the managers are bullies. There is a lot of inappropriate behaviour there. Both staff and managers never heard of such things as personal space, boundaries and professional behaviour at work. You'll hear managers making sexual comments about other staff members. I have worked with some creepy people there. Oh, and there's a lot of gossip going on, it feels like an episode of Bold and Beautiful. You can't just come in, do your job quietly and leave.
* Poor work life balance. They will tell you it's vital for them to ensure staff are not overworked and stressed but at least once a week you have someone crying in the staff room or walking out mid shift because they just can't handle the pressure. Being a FOH is not a difficult job to do but Shift Managers can't pull their weight and do not support you in any way. You work a lot of hours because the restaurant was constantly understaffed and they were taking way more bookings than it's reasonable for a venue this size. There's frequently problems with booking holidays, even if you do it well in advance.
* Poor staff management. Not every staff member is being held to the same standard. Some people get preferential treatment while not being exceptional staff members. You can be great at upselling and turning tables but if you don't scratch manager's back you'll hardly get recognition for what you do. You can be mediocre but if you're "nice" then you'll do well and get promoted and/or given a pay rise.
