Pros

Free Food sometimes (Cafe only) when written off as a loss, and not too often Guaranteed Breaks (but not the time of day and they'll guilt you) Unionized (but that doesn't help) Casual uniforms Contributing to a small business atmosphere THEY COMPOST!! Training opportunities (don't lead anywhere, but interesting) On-site food and caffeine when on break, 20% discount Assistant Managers rocked (Mike and Max) and are some of my favorite people

Cons

Will use you if you let them Low wages Lots of lazy high school kids ruin it and make it NOT fun HR said I faked an injury on their broken equipment, but other people were getting hurt too Cut my hours when I asked for unpaid time off instead of worker's comp, which is totally illegal and unjust. It cost me $550 ish and I could have lost my health insurance if it went on too long. Salmonella outbreak and cross contamination, and management didn't take it seriously until they lost lots of money Health insurance has $5000 deductible, 401K is a joke They lost my hiring paperwork and refiled it for a lower amount, then accused me of faking it until I proved otherwise with my copy. Geri backed me up and is a good manager and really nice person. (GM at State now)

Pros

Break times, employee discount, some of the people there are beautiful people. There are attempts at inclusive community programs. Sometimes people bring in their dogs.

Cons

Several managers are casually sexist and racist, and there is no accountability for anyone. Work ethic doesn't matter - employees get blamed for things that have nothing to do with them. Several employees have gone to management about assaults by customers and nothing has been done. Management does not take employee grievances seriously. Also, much of the staff is on food stamps, so the pay is clearly not enough. The union takes a hefty chunk out of paychecks every month or so and multiple employees have mentioned that they are reluctant to even contact the union representative when they have grievances.

Pros

The food that is lossed/expired gets put into the break room, for you to eat at your own risk of course.

Cons

Responsibties keep expanding, while the pay remains the same. The pay does not reflect the amount of work expected by a long shot.. They claim it's because of labor costs etc.. but it seems fishy when the cafes profit has climbed by 8-10% just last month, and that they continue to hire more people when they can't even schedule the existing staff properly. Where's the money coming from if they claim to be so broke? And it's even more difficult to get stuff done when they are understaffing so bad, the cafe has to close early just to get by.. and unfortunately its so bad they even have cafe workers doing maintenence work in the store because they can't staff maintenence.. Not to mention, they allow your other coworkers to do absolutely minimum without any disiplinary action. But their work falls on you when they don't do it. You can have one employee who has weekends, same shift.. only knowing one shift (and not even speak english) while you on the other hand could know every shift, get scheduled inconsistently, and get paid the same. Fair right? Employees are not treated the same here, there is a lot of miscommunication between management and workers.. and problems are taken so lightly. Mods are not knowledgeable about any of the tasks, so basically useless when needed.. (it's sad when you end up training someone who is salary) But when things don't go the stores way, they pull the "we can do this, we're a coop" card. No- it's a Corp pretending to be a coop. And the horrible customers aren't even worth it This place as so much turnover, you'd think it was a rotisserie chicken.
