Pros

Not much I met some great colleagues who are now friends

Cons

It’s taken me a while to reflect on my experience at PA and put together an honest review , I look back and I’m shocked I managed to survive for so long. From the moment I joined PA I was thrown into a toxic and bullying environment , my manager was a bully and everyone knew it , but nobody said anything , management and colleagues would avoid my manager , because they knew how difficult they were and didn’t want to interact , but yet they allowed my manager to treat me and my fellow team mates awfully . I had to complain 3 times , offering evidence of bullying behaviour and threats to finally be heard , and my final complaint was the 10th complaint to be made (and those are the complaints I know of) . When it was finally shared with my manager how myself and the team, along with serval other colleagues had been feeling , and how we felt the threatening behaviour was not okay, my manager reacted (BADLY) and yet , they were allowed to continue on as my manager for a period of months with very little support or monitored conversations following this, imagine allowing a bully to stay on as manager when they knew that we’d all complained and how serious the evidence was - you can imagine how genuinely terrifying the months as they stayed as my manager were - this was not your everyday managerial experience where they get stressed and can be a bit scary - there were serious threats and bullying. Following my managers departure , I essentially took on the role of my manager and was not paid or recognised for it (you’re probably reading this and wondering why I stayed up until this point , I can only think that my confidence had been so badly knocked from my experience so far I just didn’t feel I could leave ) Finally we got another manager , a rushed process to hire someone and again, it was a bad experience - on one occasion my manager decided to shout at us like children , in-front of others in the office for being 30 seconds late after lunch , repeatedly asking why did we think we were being shouted at … the one senior manager in the office listening to this, got up and walked away from the situation , perhaps out of awkwardness but nothing was done or said following this and it was as if nothing had happened, basically telling our new manager it was okay to embarrass us like this. There are so many stories I could tell , from not being paid enough and being told I wouldn’t get the agreed bonus in my contact even though targets were hit , I could have gone to legal but I was told I’d be black listed and by this point Id decided I really was just desperate to leave , when I finally handed my notice in I was offered a much higher salary, it begs the question why it took for me to say I was leaving to be paid what I deserved. My main reason for writing this is to warn others , because it wouldn’t be fair for me to let anyone else go through what I did.

Pros

Nothing good about this this company apart from the select few friends made.

Cons

As someone who worked at PA for a few years and not one to normally write any type of reviews. I felt in this case it was absolutely necessary to stop anymore people getting sucked into such a negative, demotivated, incompetent and bullying workplace. I have watched the business deteriorate. Executives and product have no idea about the ever changing market they are selling to and still believe that clients buy on the ethos of 150 years ago when PA were founded, where they were probably the only news agency in the UK. We have a number of competitors (and rising) but it’s almost like PA want to pretend they don’t exist. Times have changed and no matter how many times you articulate ideas and customer feedback, it simply goes unheard. It’s a setup for both employee and business failure which is why almost all of the commercial team have left in these months during covid. They employ management who have next to no experience to be managers or any leadership role for that matter. Ultimately it allows people who come into the business to micromanage, bully, manipulate and bring their narcissistic negative attitude, with no knowledge or credibility in sales. And believe me when I say, They do this to everyone and anyone. If you are finding things difficult, instead of getting support, you get pressured more. Even if it’s the first ever time you have felt stress (amid a pandemic, you would think we are human). Times have changed and after such a whirlwind of a year, you might think their mindset would have shifted and improved towards its employees, but in fact its gotten worse because they are losing grip of how to run the company and the direction it is going. They have lost too many good people from around the business (not just sales), which maybe having a detrimental impact. To add to it all, HR are the worst I have come across in the history of all my jobs! Their job is to literally govern workplaces. Scrap everything else. That should be their utmost concern. It’s in the job title ‘HUMAN RESOURCES’, even when a number of people complain about the bullying and manipulation from a manager, you are told that a manager is able to treat you like that, since it is you who reports into them. As a new person, you will get no support because there isn’t anyone who cares enough to do it.

Systemic culture of bullying, intimidation & inept management.

Pros

Looks good on your CV.

Cons

There is a systemic culture of bullying and intimidation that is deeply rooted in the fabric of this company. It starts from the top and weaves its way down to all levels. Employees are not given any respect or any support especially from an HR department who only care about pleasing executives and have done nothing for the wellbeing of its staff. There is zero leadership at PA, especially those in the commercial and business development areas where individuals have been promoted to MD/director level roles with no experience outside PA and are frankly incompetent. Executive team and senior management need a full clear out.
