Business outlook

Pros

Great place to work. Very friendly, highly collaborative, expert level staff in all departments. It’s a very sticky place. There are a lot of long-tenured folks and a lot of former employees come back for a second tour. The many custom systems allow the business to be highly productive and do more with less people.

Cons

The downside of having so custom systems written over many decades is that there is a lot to support, upgrade, update & refactor, across a healthy mix of varying paradigms & design principles. Also, that the systems enable more to be done by less business users, ironically, creates an illusion of a high IT to business employee ratio. However, improving the software landscape could be appealing to those that embrace a good challenge. And for those that do, they’ll find that IT leadership is honest about where things stand, highly motivated to improve, and has a lot of great minds to move things forward.
