It doesn't get any better

Pros

The company is growing exponentially so the opportunities for growth are abundant. Upper-level management are genuinely concerned about coaching, mentoring, and developing employees who show the desire and drive to excel and build a career with Surterra. While it is still retail and we do sell products, we are in service to the patient so the focus is on cultivating a culture of compassion and empathy while delivering quality products, not about up-selling or driving units out the door. Every day we are changing peoples' lives and it's an amazing feeling!

Cons

The company is growing rapidly and in addition to being a startup, the industry itself is new in the state of Florida so there is a lot of adaptation required to keep up. Legislation changes and processes have to change or this isn't working so we try that; one day policy is "xyz" and the next it's "abc." Things are constantly changing and you have to be on your toes and able to pivot without missing a beat. For me, it's not a con, but it's not something that everyone is comfortable with so I felt I would mention it so anyone interested in jumping on board at this stage in the company's development would know what they were getting into so they could either prepare themselves or wait a few years for things to level out.

Great place to work-But not for everyone

Pros

Surterra has incredible benefits and a great committed staff. The mission of the company is great and the leadership that is in place will help us to hopefully become a world leader in cannabis. I am here for it and I can't wait for what more is in store. Best company I have ever worked at, Surterra truly does care about its employees. While some people see a lot to complain about they don't see what goes on on the back end. I have worked in environments far far different from this one and trust that they DO CARE about their employees and that is so important in an employer to find as well as hard to find. Plenty of room for growth as well.

Cons

Surterra is in every sense of the word still a start up and probably will still be operating as one for at least the next year if not two years in terms of having all of their best practices in place for smooth sailing for all of its employees. In order to work here and be both happy and successful you have to be able to pivot and adjust and some weeks, yes work a lot, and at a moments notice sometimes as well. With that being said, it's not for everyone, but some people thrive in that environment and I am one, so I am happy. I have done both a start up and a very senior company and if I am being honest the start ups, while they might be more hectic and stressful at times are certainly way more fun to work at and a better opportunity.

Pros

Got to meet some cool people that were peers. Got to drink on the job

Cons

I was forced to give 1 star for this rating otherwise i would have given nothing. This company sucks. HR has no intention on putting proper policies and procedures in place. Depending on who you are, things may or may not apply to you. HR IS SHADY and that’s from the top down. Deceptive, unethical poorly managed and no sense of direction sums up that department. Friends promote their friends giving 50 and 60k increases. People are in positions that they are nowhere near qualified for. NO COMMUNICATION and certainly no consistent fair way of doing things and HR is the center of office politics. Their desire to keep their jobs, and earn a bigger salary and their next promotion, keep them from acknowledging the legitimate employee point of view. HR must provide flawless administration services while also operating as a strategic partner to the business. You WILL NOT get this at Surterra. The HR team also advocates for employees and champion’s organizational change, you WILL NOT get this at Surterra. HR Employees Are Incompetent and it appears that they find untrained, uneducated employees with little experience working in a professional HR office and don’t know what they’re doing with employees or in HR. Instead of addressing actual problems in real ways, their answers are to plan potlucks, send flowery emails, have a beer with your team doing Friday in office drinking time and basically ignore the elephant in the room and that’s if you even get a response to requests and/or emails. They don’t tell the truth about how they handled an employee situation. They misrepresent the employee’s story to management and I’m sure in court too. HR staff is untrustworthy because they lie to cover up their mishandling of a situation. Keep everything in writing because the HR people who seemed oh so sympathetic to you while you were in the situation will LIE-LIE-LIE. IT…what’s that. EVERYDAY there is an issue and no one seems to care to fix it. There is a constant turnover in leadership when really, they need to just start over. Everyone is on a different page, might even be in a different book. People have nervous breakdowns and lose it there, I did in just 2 months. Unless you enjoy that sort of thing, it's hard to believe that you would be happy at Surterra. If you speak up you will be cast-out and fired for not being on the bandwagon contrary to them telling you it’s okay to disagree. There is no career progression plan, no training and resources on Career Development Plans. You are asked to do things that compromise integrity as the company cuts corners and tries to get around regulation. Do yourself a favor and RUN IN THE OTHER DIRECTION, this is a horrible, toxic, not the dream job and make no mistake, THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR EMPLOYEES. Whatsoever. Read the reviews and pay attention to those that aren’t all fluffed up and flowery. If Glassdoor allowed for names, I could really share explicit examples.
