Wish that I had never been hired here

Pros

For the first few weeks at PSC, everything was great. The woman I worked for was very professional, I was paid fairly well and I had benefits. Not to mention that the building was really clean and pretty - appropriate for an architectural firm. I was at PSC during the summer and appreciated having Friday afternoons off, even though it meant coming in to work a half hour early every day.

Cons

Around the time that I had been at PSC for two months, I was laid off . Worst of all, there was not an adequate explanation for my termination. All I was told was that I "didn't fit in". If my duty performance was lacking, I should have been counseled about this before they laid me off. Or if I was being let go due to a downsizing, I should have been advised of this. But this is Texas, where people are let go from jobs every single day without a word of explanation. In other states employers cannot do this, but down here, it's perfectly legal.

It is true, PSC is not for everyone. While we strive to hire the right fit every time, on rare occasions, our expectations do not match. We hold each other to a very high standard, not only for our clients but also for the projects that we are designing in our communities. We embrace a culture of excellence with an attitude of ownership for our shortcomings to create the best PSC products possible. Although your time with PSC was brief, we are happy that you have found an employer that matches your needs and we wish you the best.

Pros

Flexible schedule and decent work-life balance when the workload allows it.

Cons

Marketing is seen as glorified clerical workers to most in the company. Despite the fact that we are all professionals with degrees and experience in our field, we are expected to simply do as we are told and not give any input on the processes or deliverables. You can work in corporate 20+ years and not even make it to Associate of the firm, despite working tirelessly to help others succeed. There is definitely an "in-crowd" at the firm, who are hand-picked by one of the board members and rise to the top quickly, while others who have been at the firm longer and offer a lot to the company are continuously overlooked. The diversity at Parkhill is atrocious. Their "Meet the Team" will let you see for yourself. If you are not a white male, you will probably not do well here. While proposal champions get all the credit for winning new business, coordinators are expected to support them by working late and on weekends to put together the content that they always seem to turn over to us at 5 pm on Fridays before it's due. Marketing leadership will not go to bat for you. Parkhill pays their marketing team less than any other comparable firm in Texas.

Thank you for taking the time to let us know how you feel. Parkhill values all professionals as each are vital to the success of the company. We are disappointed that you did not feel valued; we intentionally take the time to invest in ALL employees to be the best they can be. We take great pride in our diversity as well as our DEI Council that meets regularly to discuss how to take what inclusion initiatives Parkhill does now and make them even better. During periodic salary audits, we evaluate the rate in which we compensate groups with peer firms and their scale in relation to their education, years of experience, responsibilities, geographic location and increase rates when needed. That has always been our culture which fosters our values of credibility and integrity with compensation and value within the firm. We hope you the best wherever you land.
