Pros

You never have to want for hours.

Cons

I have worked for awhile now at MSCL in Salt Lake City, UT (a division of PAML). I have never worked for such an unprofessional company or experienced such blatant and apparent workplace abuse. Several people in leadership roles are absolutely verbally and mentally abusive toward several of their employees. They do not properly or even fully train their employees, but still hold them fully accountable when mistakes are made. Due to the lack of proper training, there are HUGE inconsistencies. Each employee in my department does the job differently. These "leaders" actually revel in digging around for errors, so they can humiliate and degrade employees out in the open and in front of other employees. It is a daily occurrence. They are bullies at best! Due to recent cutbacks the employees are now not only responsible for the "standard responsibilities" within their normal brief, but now they are also responsible for additional responsibilities without full or proper training, without any pay increase and also without breaks or lunches! The people who run this show do so in a way that shows favoritism to a couple of employees and, then, also on a daily basis, by focussing on demeaning and belittling other employees in any way they can (and always in front of others). Retaliation is prevalent. It is beyond me why or how people like them can be in supervisory roles! Part time employees are forced to work full-time hours. No one is granted breaks or lunches. Profanity is the norm with these Unprofessionals. PAML makes certain that every employee watches training videos and read various manuals on corporate culture, superior internal and external customer service, etc. However, I have yet to see any of the people in supervisory positions conduct themselves in a way that upholds any of the principles preached by PAML. They definitely lead in a "do as I say, not as I do" way. They are the poorest examples of supervisors, leaders or management I have ever encountered. As for witnessing the way they treat patients, medical staff and clients...it isn't much better than how they treat the employees. They are not compassionate or even friendly. They expect the employees working with patients/residents/clients to not engage in small talk with them even if/when it isn't slowing the process/job. They want phlebotomists in and out of a patient's/resident's room in under three minutes. I'm sorry, but that is unrealistic when you are trying to find a vein in a dehydrated, sickly, elderly patient/resident! And, not only that, but it also goes against the quality of care and service PAML also preaches. I would leave in a heartbeat if I could afford to. So, if you like working for mean spirited, acid tongued, mood swinging supervisors...this is your place to be! Oh, and, as you can imagine, turnover is very high here...they might as well install a revolving door to the lab!

Seems to be headed in the wrong direction

Pros

The biggest pro is that they hire internally most of the time so you can move in the direction you want departmentally. Coworkers are great and become close friends if you can stay out of the office gossip.

Cons

To be honest, the CEO is beyond strange and is pushing PAML in the wrong direction lab wise. Very few people feel confident in the direction of the company. Pay is on the lower end of the scale.
