Pros

Nice office, enjoyable colleagues, one wfh day.

Cons

To begin, the founder consistently demonstrated a lack of understanding of basic business operations, frequently resorting to the blame game. This behavior created a pervasive sense of anxiety across the office, especially during weekly creative review days. In business meetings, offensive slurs were not uncommon, even in the presence of leadership, who chose to turn a blind eye. Comments on employees' appearances, also witnessed by leadership, contributed to a discomforting work environment. Employees were often treated rudely and, at times, like personal assistants. Unfortunately, these issues extended beyond the founder. Despite leadership advocating for professionalism, there was a noticeable gap between words and actions. The culture at Patrick Ta Beauty involved managers engaging in high school gossip, undermining coordinators, and showing a severe lack of respect for their contributions. This toxic atmosphere resembled a sorority-like environment. The expectation of constant availability, particularly through WhatsApp (the main form of communication due to the founder's aversion to email), coupled with a toxic fire drill environment, added significant stress. Employees were often asked to stay online between the early hours of 2AM-4AM, only to be informed after the fact, that their actions were no longer needed. These fire drills, often stemming from random requests by the founder, reflected leadership's disregard for employees' time and boundaries. Boundaries were regularly disrespected. Another challenge was the promotional cycle, marked by an apparent imbalance and favoritism. Once again, leadership's promises did not align with their actions. While I could go on forever about the red flag that is Patrick Ta Beauty, I would advise to seriously reconsider joining the Patrick Ta Beauty team for the sake of your well being and life outside of work (you won’t have one). I can confidently say that the grass is greener anywhere other than at Patrick Ta Beauty.

Pros

Leadership was flexible with time off, WFH one day a week. Nice office and stocked fridge.

Cons

During my time at this company, I worked through many changes and typically love a fast-paced environment. In my opinion, what you will find here is not just a fast paced environment, but a highly reactive (not proactive) structure. Due to the lack of beauty industry experience from leadership, fire drills are common, making communication poor and very unorganized. Coordinator positions are exposed to more scrutiny and high level conversations than should be expected of someone at this level. Team members experience pressure, ridicule, and indecisiveness from the founders who do not have an understanding of timeliness. Leadership does not support the team when this happens and allow it to carry on instead of creating professional boundaries and an encouraging space. Foul and unprofessional language was used on a regular basis in team meetings from a very important team member that created an uncomfortable environment. Group messages are sent at all times of the morning, day, and night without any clear direction or context. You will be expected to do the absolute most and get the least in return. Make groundbreaking moves for the brand - expect a heart emoji in the group chat. There is an lengthy and dreaded "approval process" that could be easily worked with if it was actually made a clear process and those involved were as dedicated as they should be. Lack of communication from the person with final approval causes delays in projects and you are then met with unwarranted disbelief and disappointment. It is so unclear what you are all working towards and at times it mostly feels like it's only to pad the pockets of leadership/founders. Any culture that the company has/had was not from the brand celebrating their mission, but from the employees creating their own friendships and bonds. One week here and you'll see the red flags.

Pros

Employees (excluding leadership) are kind and supportive

Cons

The workplace culture at Patrick Ta is alarmingly toxic to say the least, with the founder and leadership being significant contributors. Their leadership style is characterized by fear and disrespect. Communication is often laced with condescension creating an uncomfortable atmosphere for all employees. Tension escalates throughout the office whenever the founder is present, fostering an anxiety-ridden work environment. The expectations set by leadership are not only unrealistic but border on the absurd. 12 hour workdays become the norm, and lunch breaks are a luxury you can rarely afford. Burnout is not only expected but guaranteed. Resources and time are consistently wasted on misguided projects, contributing to an overall lack of structure within the organization. This mismanagement contributes to a chaotic work environment, further amplifying stress and frustration. There is a constant pressure to be reachable via email, text and other channels leaving no room for a healthy work-life balance. Patrick Ta Beauty is far from an ideal workplace and prospective employees should approach with caution.
