Pretty stable company, Less drama than a normal startup.

Pros

The employees tend to be older which I see as a positive for anyone facing age discrimination. The company is solvent and growing and your position, as long as you are competent should be fairly stable. Fairly ok work life balance though team by team it might be different.

Cons

Some of the benefits could be a little better, there's no 401k matching which might have been ok for a younger demographic. The management is a little slow to move on improvements and more than a few people are a little stuck in their ways so don't assume the new shinny will get done for anything short of a year. Some of the management is still stuck in toxic lean in ideologies and it could be a better place for people of color.

Pros

Friendly and approachable people for the most part. Successful and growing company.

Cons

Sexism is rampant, at least in the technical positions. There is a DEI effort but ironically some of the worst offenders are part of it -- apparently the lack of women in tech isn't of concern to a bunch of aging privileged white guys. And that IS the culture of engineering leadership: clueless that anyone has ever had an experience that doesn't include tapping the shoulder of your privileged-white-guy pals from Berkeley or Apple whenever you need something. If you're a woman and go to work here in Engineering, expect to have zero support while you try to prove yourself (because it will be assumed that you can't possibly have any expertise as a woman), be bypassed for any promotions, and be micromanaged to the point of being told what to post on Slack (and when). HR means well but is powerless to change anything. Best just to avoid this company altogether. Also, pay is good but benefits are bad. I took a $25K salary cut to go to a decent company, but my take-home pay is higher because I'm not paying for all of my benefits and my 401k.

Good Pay, Bad Leadership: A Cautionary Tale

Pros

Most individual contributors were genuinely trying to do good and work together for the most part. There was a sense of camaraderie among the team members. Pay was pretty decent, which made the job financially rewarding despite the challenges. HR was absolute fire with it's gifts they would send out throughout the year. They also were a really nice team to interact with.

Cons

The leader of Engineering frequently referred to himself as a "Benevolent Dictator" with glee. Anytime someone refers to themselves as a dictator, no matter what the scenario, it is a massive red flag. This so-called "leader" made it a point to monitor every single Slack channel, instructing people on how to do their jobs, despite not even being able to figure out basic tasks on their own. The micromanagement was appalling, showing an inherent lack of trust in the team and the leaders below him. This created a toxic culture from the top down, affecting everyone involved. The engineering all hands meeting consisted of a group of old white men "joking" amongst themselves that made it seem as far from inclusive as possible. Especially when the SVP is making misogynistic jokes about how his "wife doesn't understand technology".
