Pros

Nice people. Great office overlooking Manchester with loads of light. There's definitely opportunity to progress in your career and they promote from within.

Cons

Not really an AI company, it's a data science consultancy that uses AI as a marketing gimmick. Overtime is expected and encouraged, people get applauded when they work silly hours and you'll be asked directly why you didn't work late when someone else did. - this is probably the biggest negative, there is real culture of overtime here. Pretty common at startups, but still not good. This last one will sound harsh, but there's not much expertise in senior positions. Lots of people are just guessing their way through things and the goal seems to just be to keep getting more funding and then.... somehow become a massive AI company?

Sorry to hear your experience of Peak doesn’t match what we have set out to try and achieve. Everyone at Peak owns part of the business through our employee share scheme, the business performance and strategy are openly shared and discussed in detail frequently and everyone is working as a team to achieve our shared goals. That connection to the company mission and our focus on wellbeing are two of the strongest factors in our team voting Peak into the Top 100 Companies to work for in the UK for the past two years. Whilst we want everyone to have an amazing experience at Peak, joining a startup / scale-up business means we are fast-paced in our approach and it isn’t for everyone. We are disappointed to hear it hasn’t worked out for you this time but genuinely wish you all the best in your career and thank you for your work during your time at Peak.

Overworked and underappreciated

Pros

My team is full of really smart and motivated people.

Cons

They pay significantly under market rate for technical expertise and prefer to hire people with little working experience as they can pay them less. Add to this the fact that the benefits are poor (minimal pension contribution, no healthcare, tiny bonus compared to what many places offer) and it is easy to see why Peak can't hire/retain more experienced tech professionals. Another downside is overworking. There is a huge, and frankly toxic culture of overworking in the organisation. And this isn't just mandatory work. I've seen many within the DS team completely burnt out by working late every night to deliver not only customer deadlines, but added extra company initiatives, simply because this is the only way to get recognised and considered for a promotion and pay review. When I first joined, I loved how much the company valued diversity and inclusion but I quickly realised that for senior management at least, this is all about self promotion. If the company cared so much about D&I, surely they would provide equal opportunities for peoples voices to be heard and equal opportunity for development and progression . There's deffinately a 'Peak personality' and if you don't fit the bill, you're not going anywhere fast.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review – we’re really proud of the Peak team and their commitment to providing intelligent solutions for our customers but we’re sorry to hear that you aren’t enjoying other aspects of your time at Peak. We’re on a mission to build a company everyone loves to be a part of, that starts with inclusivity. Diversity Equity and Inclusion at Peak is championed by our leadership team and headed up by our COO. Any opportunities for development or promotion are identified through our six-monthly appraisal process, which works alongside each Peaker’s Personal Development Plan, and are made on merit. We also continue to review our salaries in-line with external benchmarking. We take our responsibility to Peakers around the world very seriously. Our benefits suite prioritizes mental and physical wellbeing, and work/life balance is a core focus for us. This manifests in a number of ways, such as subscriptions to apps like Headspace and Spill, contributions towards a gym membership and talking therapy support. We operate a hybrid working model with flexibility in working hours. We’d encourage you to continue to share your feedback with your manager or through our quarterly engagement surveys. If you would like to raise your concerns confidentially, we have an anonymous whistleblowing channel or you can reach out to a member of the People team at people@peak.ai for a private chat.

Pros

If you're an economics student and you're looking for a case study for what happened in 2021 when foreign investment and low interest rates resulted in some terrible investments in 'tech companies'.

Cons

The devastating reality of the above.

Thank you for leaving a review, we’re sorry you didn’t enjoy your time at Peak. Peak is led by an experienced global team from diverse SaaS and tech backgrounds, who have steadily grown the business over the last eight years. With the global economic downturn, 2022 was an incredibly challenging year for most companies in our sector but we continue to work hard to ensure our customers and the product they use are well supported long into the future. We continually use feedback from a number of channels, such as our quarterly engagement surveys, 1:1 feedback and company reviews to make improvements to our ways of working. If you feel comfortable, we’d encourage you to reach out to our People team via people@peak.ai to share some more detail on your experience.
