Pros

None. The company is a scam which is actively conning people.

Cons

The degree's are bogus and unaccredited. They are only interested in your pre-existing bachelor's so they can sell your information to a recruiter. You are told to mislead and lie to the 'students'. They are a trojan horse organisation, pretending to be educational, but all they want to do is sell your information to third parties. Should be banned. The fake degrees are unaccredited.

Wow! We're proud of our vision of change in higher education, as well as the thousands of students who comprise our community of learners and alumni. It is true that our degrees, while licensed here in Washington DC, are not yet accredited (as of Jan 2019 - stay tuned). In the meantime, our entire team (perhaps with the exception of one disgruntled ex employee) is truly inspired at the prospect of democratizing education worldwide.

Pros

Most employees are able to work remotely.

Cons

This organization has a classic start-up culture: no formal training procedures, messy onboarding process, and murky objectives for employees. The work one does is primarily online, and while this does afford some flexibility, I felt there was a lack of humanization from management. There was a culture of gossip from leadership, and a general feeling of malaise and stress from both employees and management. Management in the admissions department often complained about lack of work life balance(their inability to be a more present parent was a constant complaint), the faults of other people in the department( they would often speak negatively of their employees right after they exited a zoom call), and a constant stream of apologies and excuses for their lack of organization while taking no concrete steps to amend said issues. The whole time I worked there I felt overwhelmed by the negativity coming from management, and dismayed by the lack of positive leadership, training, and team-building. Much of my time was spent keeping record of the faults of the admissions counselors in my department, at the request of my manager. This made me feel incredibly icky, especially given the lack of training and guidance these employees were given and the very apparent stress each one of them was facing due to poor communication/expectation on the part of admissions leadership. Overall, I found the company culture to be one of stress, gossip, and insecurity- due to poor leadership, poor checks and balances for said leadership, and a lack of experience in field of MBA education. While they tout that their curriculum is as coherent as that of a elite institution, their management is not.

Pros

I worked at Smartly part time on their admissions team. I was given the option to stay or go as they were not fond of the fact that the company I worked for full time was someone they deemed as a competitor, coupled with the fact that my availability for Smartly was limited. I have a hunch we will see a new job posting in a few days for the interviewer position, with new job duties and less pay. If you are considering the interviewer role (or any other position at Smartly) here is my honest review: PROS: --flexible, remote work environment where you set your own hours (this will likely change) --innovative start up company driven by a desire to change education --high achieving, inspirational candidates that I was privileged to speak with everyday --fun, easy, minimally stressful work environment if you are looking for extra income

Cons

CONS: --very, very early stage start up with growing pains to scale the business --interviewers treated as expendable part of the company although they drive revenue for the business --admissions team is going through a lot of change (new director of admissions was just hired) and we will see if that yields positive results internally and for students --there’s little attention/resources going to the student experience in the MBA/EMBA program beyond what’s provided in the platform since resources are going elsewhere --in admissions, we talk about the recruiting network where companies hire our students, and right now it is still in the very early stages; this caused me conflicting feelings when I spoke about it with candidates
