Pros

Most of the people are very pleasant to work with. It is reasonably well organised for a broking business. Staff operate with a good deal of integrity and with client service in mind. Many people who join from bulge bracket seem to enjoy the culture and pace.

Cons

Underpayers vs the industry. Non transparent bonus system. Employee rights eroded by 'partnership' structure. Highly onerous severance terms - repayment of bonus (gross), worked notice and unpaid 6 month non compete covering three continents.

Pros

Decent trading platform gives business stability in a cyclical market Strong research department places business firmly amongst top four in UK small/mid cap brokers, possibly top three

Cons

Tends to be run for the benefit of an inner circle. Extremely aggressive with people who leave in terms of bonus claw back, non-competes, other restrictive covenants etc. Will resort to legal action against leavers for more quickly than majority of peers. Leads to a sense of being a gilded cage, where people want to leave but can't afford to, which can create an unhealthy mood of disgruntlement

Pros

Rank and file doing an amazing job inspite of weak, greedy management

Cons

- Onerous employment contracts - Avaricious management team - Marginal, pre-revenue clients with a likelihood of blowing up (Quindell, Nanoco, Purplebricks, and Sensyne to name but a few!)- are you Canaccord in disguise? - Unhealthy obsession with sweating their assets (staff) to maximise management team’s exit value - Disingenuous and fundamentally dishonest - Gaping chasm between what they promise their clients and what they deliver Only those with a likely chance of getting their snouts in the trough need apply! In short, a but end stockbroker masquerading as a mid-cap investment bank. Caveat emptor!
