The perils of private equity

Pros

-Flexible with remote work -Mostly great people below upper management level -Some interesting clients

Cons

Private equity is in the process of destroying what were (less than a year ago) successful separate companies. Penta has missed 2023 revenue projections set by the board each quarter so far, leading to multiple rounds of company-wide layoffs. Employees who have been there for years have been laid off with zero notice and the severance they are offering is pathetic. Others are quietly being denied expected promotions and raises. Staff in most departments are already overworked and underpaid, so it remains to be seen how they will be able to grow the business when they keep axing people. Leadership's desperation for more money has allowed significant scope creep from existing clients in hopes of increasing the value of current contracts. A "hiring freeze" has been in place since the spring, though certain departments favored by leadership have been able to skirt the freeze and hire new people - even as they lay off employees in other, less favored departments. TL;DR Thanks to its new private equity overlords, this company is a sinking ship. I DO NOT recommend applying. Any current employees reading this should leave ASAP.

If you value yourself, stay away

Pros

Decent benefits like zero cost healthcare

Cons

If you care about your mental health and value yourself, do not work here. Management is hella shady, and ever since the private equity acquisition, there have been a lot of structural change and reorganization to the company with little vision and foresight in mind. Policies are always changing, and there are unclear expectations around what’s expected of you, which is frequently projected by lousy managers who don’t know what the hell they’re doing. I’ve met some great people during my time at the company, but most of the brightest people I’ve met have since parted ways with the company for greener pastures (and probably see that it’s a sinking ship). This company claims that it cares about diversity, and it’s a joke. Most of the C-Suite partners, managers and even associates, come from similar racial and socio-economic backgrounds. You’re expected to work overtime and you are not compensated for it. The pay is NOT aligned with the amount of work you’ll be doing in this position. They say that there’s a “clear” path to promotion, which may be true from the associate to senior associate roles. After that, your path to growth is unclear and subject to change.
