A word to the wise from one who was there when it happenned
Pros
If you are someone who thrives in a fast, non-stop, never rest ever-changing environment that releases more new "products" I have restful nights then this can be a challenging engagement.
Cons
I need to be careful here. The CEO's favourite brag to those who dared fly close enough to the sun is the cheery tail of the ex-employee who he took to the brink of bankruptcy only to "show mercy" on written request of the biggest player in the Aus car game just to send a message to ex-employees. The decisions I saw made went beyond profit-focussed, beyond ethical, beyond explicable, and on at least one occasion clearly and deliberately beyond legal with not one murmur of dissent from those who said yes enough to wear biggish pants. The only thing resembling strategy I saw was in fact a tactical plot to give the appearance of strategy to stakeholders now rarely present. The only acceptable opinion is always yes. Humiliation is an acceptable way to ensure your compliance or at least your silence. Fear and threats will finish the job if not. Disrespect to professions (accounting, marketing, sales), customers, suppliers and even the law starts in high places at Pentana and ripples all the way through to that last multi-page monthly invoice that suddenly changed for no apparent good reason, OEM integration being charged as extra that just isn't right, incident that no one seems to care about fixing, product that doesn't do it like it should, organisational restructure which starts before employees understood the last one.
