Incompetent CEO Sabotaging Company

Pros

The office has electricity, indoor plumbing, and adequate waste management receptacles. It also has workstations equipped with desks, internet-enabled computers, chairs, telephones, and office supplies like pens, markers, and highlighters. Oh, and the Swingline staplers are out of this world. The paperclips are just ok.

Cons

Notwithstanding all of the radiant praises listed above, there are definitely some areas of much needed improvement. For starters, PeopleAdmin is the most unethical, cold, and soulless place I’ve ever worked. If you’re looking for the archetypal Austin company that’s progressive, socially conscious and just, employee-friendly, and an overall positive place to work, keep looking. You won’t find it here. I don’t expect PeopleAdmin to be the most humanitarian company out there, but I do at least expect them to uphold even minimal standards of decency and virtue. As a condition of employment, you have to sign a legal agreement where you waive your every right under the law. This includes giving up any claim you might ever have against the company, even if they violate your civil rights or do anything else otherwise illegal. This leaves employees completely powerless against abuse, discrimination, and other forms of gross mistreatment. With employees waiving every right meant to protect them, what incentive does the company even have to “do the right thing?” None at all. And it shows in how the CEO personally acts out. He is so incredibly inappropriate. He makes racist and sexist jokes during meetings, hurls hateful insults at people, and gets things accomplished through aggression and intimidation. He’s an unchecked bully. Don’t fall for the conjured up storyline about how all the negative reviews are only coming from “old” angry employees who were here before the acquisition. Low morale is collectively felt here, regardless of tenure. This is because the problem isn’t with how long someone’s been here, it’s with the hostile environment created by the current CEO. If the proposition were true that it’s just the older employees who are so unhappy, then why is the turnover especially high with people who ‘ve been here less than 12 or even 6 months? You can’t blame PeopleAdmin’s horrible reputation on a handful of veteran employees who have an ax to grind. When everyone on Glassdoor is saying the same thing about the CEO, you can’t simply claim that’s just a few people being disgruntled.

Toxic Hellscape

Pros

- It’s so nice to see that management has taken such an interest in Glassdoor that they’ve decided to saturate it with fake positive reviews. Some advice – if you’re going to pose as us “normal” employees to inflate your rating, try to not make it so painfully obvious. Just read the recent 4 & 5 star reviews from the last 6 months or so and you’ll see exactly what I mean. Seems more like management talking points than authentic feedback from ordinary employees. The timing of these bursts of fake reviews also strangely coincide with when the new execs joined the company. People see through this. No one’s fooled and you’ve been called out on this by several people now. Stop embarrassing yourselves. - Some of the best co-workers I've ever had the privilege of working with. - Our clients and industries we serve make the work fulfilling. It's only because of them that so many people decide to stay working at this company.

Cons

- Lots of change has happened at PeopleAdmin in such a short amount of time. Not all for the good either. CEO is detached because he doesn’t seem to care that so many people are unhappy and are leaving. He distorts reality by saying people are just unhappy because they don’t like change. What a tone deaf misdiagnosis of the real problem. - CEO also shamelessly tries to discourage people from voicing their unhappy opinions on Glassdoor. He’s openly told us during meetings that if we’re unhappy we should go directly to him instead of anonymously expressing ourselves on social media. Problem with this is that he’s never genuinely built that kind of trust with us so that we feel comfortable going to him. He just expects trust even though he’s done a lot to betray trust. People who’ve gone directly to the CEO before about their concerns have either been let go shortly thereafter or callously told to leave if they’re so unhappy. What kind of bunk open door policy is that? It’s heartless and it breeds distrust. - Hands down the worst thing here is the culture of fear the new CEO has instilled. At meetings he comes off so charismatic and caring. Everyone sees through his act. When he’s not on stage his true colors come out. He’s irritable and has a reputation around the office for losing his cool – he lashes out and screams and swears at people. Never been on the receiving end of his wrath but I’ve personally witnessed it. Our walls are paper thin so people can overhear when he yells. But it’s not like he’s even tried to hide his temper. He’s even exploded in the wide open within earshot of everyone. Word spreads fast when your CEO is a loose cannon. You lose all respect and credibility as a CEO when you constantly blow up. Some of the other execs also have a bit of a short fuse, but nothing compared to the CEO. True leaders have control over their emotions and know how to treat people.

Pros

As a member of the Vista portfolio, hard working employees have future career options within Vista

Cons

Morale has been trending downward for a while and it continues to get worse. Employees are treated poorly by senior management with the CEO being the worst offender. Old school management which expects long hours IN the office with limited flexibility. Salaries for newer employees are low relative to other local (Austin) software companies and work/life balance isn't even a consideration.
