Great Organization, Team and Purpose
Pros
Working for an organization where people from the community are impacted...both now and eternally...was a major reason why I loved my job. The leadership is generally clear in goals, well connected, sensitive, willing to listen and support. Benefits were solid.
Cons
This is difficult, because the cons are understandable. It's a church...and even though it's a mega-church by current standards, good stewardship means that you don't pay employees mega salaries. The church is here to serve the world, not to make employees rich. But, average salary was often low when compared with moderate salaries in community work. And, opportunities for growth in a church (not just this church, but any church) are minimal. That's why so many talented people only work for a church for a period of time before moving on to other opportunities. I would also say that working at a church or any other faith centered organization does not shield you from human relations or business challenges. I encountered many of the same challenges there than I have in all of my other work history. In fact, there were a few instances at Perimeter that were worse than anything I've experienced in secular work...but, that was because of certain individuals who were young and inexperienced as well as a lack of solid structure at the time I was there.
