Pros

Seeing dogs in the shift, access to more product knowledge, able to be flexible if you're a casual

Cons

When you work at petbarn there are monthly incentives that are terribly inaccurate, random and for such little reward ($40 gift cards to coles/woolies). They incentivise products that aren't even "good" for dogs and that I would not recommend. Your area manager only pushes you to sell these items because if their store gets a better score than others then they get a massive bonus. So you're essentially recommending products and getting told off if you don't sell it for someone else's benefit. None of the incentives is actually focused on your passion for nutrition/the animals and your own career. Secondly, I have never had a job that is so poorly managed, in such a toxic environment and does not back up its team/staff whatsoever. The website is shocking, the customer service is terrible, the system that they use for click and collect/same day deliveries is so outdated and horrible to use. Everything is done via paper (meaning nothing is modernised, online, easy to use, not wasteful). I highly highly do not recommend working here. For the amount of stress and poor management, it is so not worth being paid the minimum possible wage. I wish I looked at this website before working here.

Pros

Customers bring their cute pets!

Cons

An absolute s**t show, they pay the smallest amount they can legally get away with. Management is rude & immature. High staff turn over, training is trash (please don’t take any advice from a petbarn employee, it’s all bs), also there is no work life balance you are expected to come in at the drop of a hat and a punished if you can’t.

Pros

Meeting and helping all types of customers with all types of animals, Co-workers are typically good people who you can enjoy the shift with.

Cons

Horrible Management + Upper management. They all have their own little clique that protect their own whilst their staff are nothing but expendable. Troublesome staff are protected and others tossed aside with a minutes notice. No chance of moving up the ladder, be prepared to be an entry level Sales Assistant for the rest of your life. You're expected to not have any form of life outside of work, so be ready to be called and expected to show up with 2 minutes notice, and ridiculed if you can't come in. If you work a minute after closing time, managers will change your time to say you finished when the store closes and you will not be paid for any time you are working after that point. Many times I was held back and stuck at work, more often than not an extra 30 minutes, sometimes over an hour, and every week they would change my roster to say I finished exactly at closing time. Fair work would have a field day with the shady tactics this business takes part in.
