Promising Opportunity, Disappointing Experience - Avoid

Pros

Immediate co-workers within marketing were fantastic. They are kind, hard-working people who are not appreciated by management. A "4pm Finish" incentive was put in place however, this was not ran fairly each week leading some members of staff to win more over others. Notably, this would usually fall in favour of senior members of management. The Working From Home initiative was very helpful, I'd regard this as one of the few benefits from working at Peter Vardy,

Cons

Unfortunately the Marketing Department is not a healthy environment to work in due to acute bullying from management, micro-managing, and office politics. Veiled threats, passive-aggressive comments, and dirty looks are all part of a usual work day within the department. Staff are consistently walking on eggshells for fear of being targeted by senior management. Over the last couple of years, many members of staff have left due to senior management behaviour leaving the remaining staff to pick up the workload. The expectation to output the same level and quality of work with significantly less staff was frankly unrealistic, thus putting buckets more pressure on those still remaining. The understaffing issue was raised to management however, staff were merely accused of "airing their grievances". This is a typical example of senior management projecting the blame onto staff, and not assume any responsibility for their contribution to situations. One one occasion, I was reprimanded for setting a boundary through asking a senior member of management to use my work email to contact me, as opposed to inappropriately contacting me late at night via my mobile. On another, I was pulled into an "attitude meeting" for sharing a piece of educated advice based on my years of experience within the job to another member of staff during a meeting. I was accused of "deliberately trying to embarrass management in front of other members of staff". PR incentives are established to heighten the business's profile such as the "Free Lunch" initiative that only lasted a few months after being boasted about on social media.

Horrible place to work!

Pros

Absolutely zero pros to working at Peter Vardy. Staff turnaround is like being in a revolving door and if your face doesn't fit you get fired! HR is an absolute joke and the irony is they call themselves "people managers". It's all about profit on each car and there is a bullying culture!

Cons

Where do I start????? Worst place I have ever worked in my career and I've been in the workplace for 30 years so have experienced loads, but nothing comes close to this place! From the top down, the way management run the company is shocking! Directors and managers are falling over themselves to suck up to Peter and if he doesn't like an idea, then your days are numbered! The IT systems are an absolute joke and are stuck in the dark ages, as is the way the company is run! HR are useless, and so are their policies. At Dealerships there is a top down culture of bullying and staff are treated very badly by their line managers. Some of the language belongs back in the 80's workplace! Staff are too scared to speak out, probably because HR are useless! Car parts are purchased on ebay to maximise profit. I wouldn't go near the place for a job or to purchase a car! Peter Vardy Ltd., ruins professional careers!!!!! Unless of course one sucks up to Peter!

Pros

enjoyable environment to work in, targets are achievable, with not too much pressure from above. Actually allowed to be your own person and let your personality show in your working style and how you are with guests. Managers recognise good ideas and potential. Promoted into the sales force after 2 months from handover team commission is always a bonus

Cons

Working hours can be long when the day is quiet(but generally don't mind) as a new member of the sales team sometimes difficult to reach the retention deals needed but it is doable,
