Pros
Discount tickets to games Some really great individuals Work is interesting if working in sports is a dream Opportunities to volunteer in a variety of ways which is great
Cons
There’s a lot that could be said. First I’d caution taking stock in a lot of the reviews on here. A number of them are from former sales interns, who were there for a short amount of time and were asked to leave a review. There are some really great people that work in the front office, but some of the departments are cliquey to the point of bullying. This bullying was tolerated by a number of managers. Some managers look the other way if bullies are friends or are talented. It was really sad to see and it’s beyond noticeable in some of the newer departments. If you’re hired for an entry level position, you have to work on an intern wage that isn’t livable for years and make sure that they like you. It feels like a high school mentality and they’ll even lie in reviews to give you something to work on so they can keep you underpaid. Yes, you should be a likable person, but this is taken to the degree that you’re under an extreme microscope. Although there are ample opportunities to volunteer and perform charity work which is awesome, for a lot of things if you don’t say “yes” and volunteer it’s “noticed” and they will knock you for it. To me that’s unfair if I have to take my kids to school or another activity and I can’t make this extra volunteer opportunity. I’ve heard people be talked about at these volunteer opportunities because they couldn’t make it and it was like they were the worst employees possible for having a little bit of a life outside of work. Having a life outside of your job is tough, you’re expected to spend more time at the ballpark with your “Phillies Family” rather than your own. People sacrifice so much time there and if you don’t it’s “noticed.” There are a number of people who have been promoted because they are a favorite or “that’s his boy.” I’ve seen people wait 5+ years for a righteously deserved promotion. Don’t get me wrong, there are some great workers that have been promoted but for every great worker promoted there are always 3 favorites that are equally promoted because of being a “yes man.” Some are even promoted to positions they know nothing about or have no training in. There is a severe lack of diversity, especially in management roles. There are a few people there that are passionate about bringing more diversity into the front office, but it only seems to stem from the sales intern program. They need more diverse leadership. Lastly, the HR department can only do so much if you have issues. The VP level management runs the show to a degree that isn’t normal at most workplaces. Be careful what you say and do, because everything is being watched and “noted.”
