Not for everyone

Pros

This church knows who they are, what they want to do and with whom they want to do it. Very strategic leadership approach. Not a lot of distractions. Monthly all-staff meetings really help to set the tone.

Cons

Not the most gracious leadership. I found that they aren't looking for leaders outside of the senior leadership team. They aren't interested in your ideas, they just want people who will implement their ideas. It's all about assuming their "DNA." Wasn't for me.

Most toxic work environment I have ever been a part of

Pros

Clear mission and core values

Cons

Highly toxic, culture of fear, fabricated performance review. My advice to coworkers on my way out was "watch your back, don't trust anyone." My advice to friends who were being recruited was to run away

Truly Dangerous for Your Soul

Pros

There are many wonderful people at Pinelake and the pay and benefits are ok, though not amazing.

Cons

At the end of the day, this place is a business that puts on a show every week. It's true that they fired one toxic leader in 2021, but they simply promoted another one who now covers his manipulation and abuse in spiritualized therapeutic language. This is worse. It's nicer, but more deceptive and soul damaging over time. The arrogance of the leadership is wild. When you work there, you're made to feel like Pinelake is the dominant force of Christianity in Mississippi. In reality, most people in the community scoff at how silly and plastic it is. Most pastors tend wounded and undiscipled sheep who come from there. And most mental health professionals have counseled at least one wounded pastor who used to be on staff. Before going to work here, look at the job openings. Turnover that high means something. Reach out to former staff and get an honest perspective. Many of us left with broken hearts and damaged faith.
