Pros

Unlimited annual leave Wellness allowance Some very talented people work here

Cons

I was placed at risk of redundancy 48 hours before my confirmed return from maternity leave. I was not afforded the basic levels of employment protections new mothers deserve nor a genuine redeployment. I believe this action was discriminatory in nature and I believe this has happened before. In my opinion, the redundancy consultation was disingenuous from the get go. I was quoted a package inclusive of my global service with the company. The next morning all records of this package were deleted from meeting notes. I then received a letter stating a lower package than I was originally initially presented and a proposed redeployment which was swiftly retracted when more information was requested. Despite standing firm in seeking a package representative of my global service, I was repeatedly told I was lucky to be getting what they offered as I was a part time employee (despite working full time for my entire employment at point of redundancy) and that they did not consider I had truly earned my long service leave (which I had received confirmation of in writing many months prior). The company continually requested that I sign a deed of release to prevent me from sharing my experience and they then released a different company wide statement regarding the end of my employment to what we had agreed. In my opinion, I would avoid working for this company at all costs, especially as a woman who may be growing a family in the future.

We’re really sad to see this review. Tools like Glassdoor are important platforms to share views on experiences with companies, and as you scroll through historical reviews, you can see that we strive to engage with and learn from all entries. However on this occasion, this review does not appropriately reflect events and so has been flagged with Glassdoor accordingly. Student Beans is a fast paced and growing business and from time to time that means we need to make changes that impact a small number of roles. We obviously don’t want to lose anyone from Student Beans and we pride ourselves on being an amazing place to work in terms of our people and culture. In particular, we are proud of the number of family friendly policies we have in place. These include enhanced parental leave, pregnancy loss support, flexible working opportunities and lots of advice on parental support networks. If you are considering applying to Student Beans and wish to discuss this review or any other review to learn more about us please feel free to contact Jenny.Crawford@thebeansgroup.com.
